Deck Overhaul —March 11, 2020

Swapped Crosis, the Purger for Nicol Bolas, the Ravager  Flip as the general. Took out about half of the deck and replaced it for better more multiplayer focused discard effects. Also added a few wheels and more damage/tax/lose life effects.

if you want hand destruction use Nicol Bolas

ScionsStillLive, thanks for the suggestion! Yeah he is actually in my Myabeboard. I plan on picking him up at some point.

Hey, I agree Nicol Bolas can be devastating repeatable discard in multiplayer Commander. It's a more powerful Grixis Commander then Crosis.

No matter the Commander choice here's some budget cards $2 or less each to consider adding. Several of these suggestions are in the maybeboard. When you're playing a high CMC Commander then more low CMC ramp helps.

Crosis has flying and most Specters also have flying which makes Dragon Tempest a two drop haste enabler for the majority of your creatures. Consider cutting the other Dragons and high CMC creatures for more Specters or creature that can give you more value?

Whispering Madness is a wheel and it can be repeatable with cipher which can be powerful with flying creatures. Read the Bones, Painful Truths, Brainstorm are mana efficient draw spells. In multiplayer Commander the versatility of Mirrormade is great, especially on a budget. With all the discard from multiple opponents The Eldest Reborn can do a lot and have many targets to choose from to reanimate.

Mask of Memory and Mask of Riddles is low CMC equipment that can be repeatable draw with flying creatures. Sunken Hollow, Dragonskull Summit, Grixis Panorama, Ash Barrens are lands to consider adding.

Cards to consider cutting:

  • Hideous Visage
  • Slate Street Ruffian
  • Fill with Fright
  • Traveler's Amulet
  • Phantasmal Dragon
  • Territorial Hellkite
  • Boltwing Marauder
  • Hypersonic Dragon
  • Kolaghan, the Storm's Fury
  • Arcanis the Omnipotent
  • Moltensteel Dragon
  • Tyrant's Familiar
  • Gruesome Deformity
  • Fear
  • Foresee
  • Ambition's Cost
  • Mind Rot

Good luck with your deck.

multimedia, thanks for all of the feedback! We are thinking more or less along the same lines. The cards you suggested cutting are on the chopping block for sure, along with a few more. Talisman of Creativity, Dark Ritual, Thief of Sanity, Kess, Dissident Mage, and Whispering Madness are all good suggestions I think. I hadn't thought of Dragon Tempest so thats a good idea. I for sure plan on grabbing most of the specters at some point.

I'll comb through all of your suggestions and see what I like. Thanks again!

Hey, you're welcome.

Madness is a very underrated budget card in Commander. Kess ciphered to Madness can be powerful to repeatedly put cards into your graveyard for her ability. Especially good for repeatable opponent discard if you have on the battlefield Megrim, Caress, Fell, Wake, etc.

Madness has another interaction with Kess. If you cast it from your graveyard and cipher it to a creature after it resolves it never goes to the graveyard to be exiled. It will instead be exiled ciphered to the creature. Clever Impersonator was recently reprinted, it's now a budget card and like Mirrormade it can have many targets to choose from to copy in multiplayer Commander.

If you put Nicol Bolas in your deck then you can also try Dragon Mage

Make Dragon Mage's ability resolve first so everyone discards their hand and draws seven cards, and then Bolas will make an opponent discard their hand, basically making their new hand useless.

multimedia, Madness definitely does look powerful. I was unsure on wheels if I couldn't get their hand size back down. Though I believe I should be able to work something out to empty their hand after a wheel...most of the time at least. So I might just go the wheel/discard route versus solely discard. Kess is no doubt a powerful card. I may try her at some point, but she'll probably have to wait until I get the majority/theme of the deck situated.

ScionsStillLive, yeah that's a good one. I'll add it to the wheel list I have.
