Sideboard

This deck is a variant of the Neobrand Combo, and exploits the Azorious-printed () Absolute Virtue.

Our intent is to reinforce the combo with protection and more hurdles for our opponents to jump through.

...because this deck is a fork, I'll leave the former description from the deck this one was drived from; Neobrand-Ghalta.

Neoform Combo

The intention is to follow events like so:

Variants

Dependent on how one chooses to play, I've seen a variety of card choices, some now outdated.

  • For example, Simian Spirit Guide at one point was a cast member. I believe this is because you would use the mana alongside the Chancellor in order to generate , and then cast Manamorphose into the Neoform chain.

  • Most of the build variance comes from personal choices for your deck count, I.e.; counterspells, creature preference, etc.

  • A lot of the One-Of inclusions I see for a list like this have things that counteract against other concepts; things like Endurance to prevent being milled out at instant speed, and Laboratory Maniac for the "oops" where you accidentally draw over your library.

  • I could imagine a spot for Birgi, God of Storytelling   if you were so inclined to stick with the Manamorphose angle, but that seems very Tier 2, even for this kind of a deck.

  • I think this concept is best described as a Combo deck at best, and unfortunately a Glass Cannon at worst.

  • This deck was formerly focused on dinosaurs but now helms Absolute Virtue as a manner of keeping all nonsensical activities from your opponents in check.

  • there's truly very little to explore in this description because the card just.. kinda speaks for itself. Your opponents can't target you until they deal with the big dumb, nasty Azorius fart-waver whose preventing all of their spells. Burn decks? Done. Sacrifice focus? Nope.

  • Maybe instead of focusing on the mechanical nature of this variant, and why the card is so oppressive, we'll focus instead on the Counterpart from in-game engagements.

In order to have this deck function as it should, we need the core pieces of the combo:

Aside from the aforementioned staples of the deck, I'll be detailing other slots of the list to explain how I intend to pilot the build.

Suggestions

Updates Add

  • Upon the set release (June) we had spoiled Absolute Virtue for whom this deck-fork is named, and also Ancient Adamantoise.

  • Both have made the final list in some capacity, and I'm sparing the inclusion of Ulamog, the Ceaseless Hunger in favor of the turtle receiving a One-Of.

  • My intention is to use the Tortoise as a means of having a pseudo-Glacial Chasm effect that kinda locks out the oppositions boardstate in a serious way.

  • Assuming it's successful, this is meant to simply reinforce this particular deck's gameplan of a controlled, delayed burst shot for the win, that is accomplished via precise timing and choices.

  • My test plays put this as maybe I might bump my inclusion of the Tortoise to 2, maybe 3 copies.

  • It does it's (the Tortoise) best work up against burn match ups, and gets stunted on the most by Mirror-esque matchups, or decks where control elements are mainstays (murktide comes to mind as that match up blew me out of the water first time around, go figure.)

  • TL;DR: Ancient Adamantoise is Glacial Chasm and prevents Burn and Stompy from scorching our bits and caving our face in, respectfully. Worst matchups are obvi things that already hurt our strategy, just win faster. Simple. shrug

  • Thanks for checking in! I'll see y'all again in the comments or if another bomb of a creature gets dropped at casting cost. Cheers!
