Modern Artifact Blue Moon Burn Primer Tempo UR (Izzet)

Considering playing no Heartfire and four Collateral Damage . What do y’all think?

I haven’t done the gameplay section yet

This is an interesting and extremely fringe archetype that I found a while back at the very end of an mtg salvation forum on fun niche decks. It is actually somewhat decent, and I’m surprised that I haven’t seen it played at all. Neo-Izzet burn originally spawned off of the interaction between Shrapnel Blast and Perilous Myr . It began as a split off of skred red, still playing lots of inanimate artifacts like Relic of Progenitus along with Koth of the Hammer and some Blood Moon s. It was just a more aggressive version of skred red. It continued to evolve until it eventually only kept the blood moons and lightning bolts from the original skred list. The list you see is my take on Neo-Izzet Burn. It has plenty of aggressive sacrifice interaction, with Heartfire and Collateral Damage , but also has somewhat of a tempo playstyle, with cards like Electrolyze and Snapcaster Mage . It’s quite fun to pilot, even if it isn’t the most competitive deck, and games usually end with the opponent at 5 or less life.

This section is just explaining each card’s place in the deck and why I chose them

1: Shrapnel Blast is the OG neo burn spell. Along with perilous myr, it is more efficient that Lightning Bolt .

2: Heartfire is the new shrapnel blast, printed in war of the spark. This is quite good since you can sacrifice a creature, and not just an artifact, meaning you can snapcaster to flashback this card, and sacrifice snapcaster.

3: Collateral Damage is the final sacrifice spell. It has the same utility of heartfire, but for less mana. I am considering taking out all heartfires and finishing off the playset of collaterals, but I’m not sure yet.

4: I would be an idiot not to include Lightning Bolt in a burn deck. This one’s pretty self-explanatory.

5: Brimstone Volley really helps you get to 20 damage, especially with all of the sacrifice synergy going on. With Myr Moonvessel , the three mana isn’t very hard to reach.

6: Galvanic Blast is quite a good burn card in decks that can use it. I only run two because it is actually a bit hard to reach the three artifact threshold, since this deck keeps sacrificing the artifacts in play.

1: Perilous Myr makes all of your burn spells super efficient. Either you can go full aggro and point both the spell and the death trigger at the opponent’s face, or you can just use the myr to burn away one of their creatures as a tempo play.

2: Myr Moonvessel means Collateral Damage pays for itself, and is the main thing that lets you deal 10+ damage in a turn, since it fictionally decreases the cost of the spells you cast.

3: Pia and Kiran Nalaar are an absolute unit in the deck, but I can only run two because of the high mana cost and the aggressive meta. They make plenty of fodder for your burn spells, they can keep the opponent’s board clear, and they can deal damage to the opponent’s face even when your hand is empty and they have an Ensnaring Bridge on the field.

1: Snapcaster Mage makes everything recursive. You can bolt-snap-bolt, but you can also collateral-snap-collateral. Into longer matchups, snappy is the star of the deck, since he makes it harder for your to run out of steam.

2: Bomat Courier is an absolute must in the deck. A lot of the time you deal 15 damage, but don’t have cards left in your hand. Courier just refills it, but it can also be played as fodder for your burn spells if necessary.

3: Risk Factor is on the chopping block right now. It costs a lot, and most of the time it is inefficient and not really worth playing. I’m just not sure what to put in instead.

4: Abrade is there to burn down stupid creatures like Thalia, Guardian of Thraben , since we don’t want to waste a Shrapnel Blast on something like that. Also, Mainboard artifact hate is really nice to have.

5: Electrolyze has much the sane function as Abrade, except it is a bit more versatile. If you need a bit more damage, electrolyze does the work for you. You can burn your own Perilous Myr and one of their creatures, and still deal two damage to their face. Best of all, it cantrips.

6: Blood Moon is a great card in a meta with three and four color decks, but I only run two because it this deck usually wants it’s Fiery Islet s and darkseel citadels to not be basic mountains, and it can’t be sacrificed to any of the burn spells.

1: Blood Moon and Abrade are just extra copies of Mainboard cards that are good in specific matchups.

2: Ensnaring Bridge is actually surprisingly good. You usually empty your hand by turn four, so against aggressive decks you can lay this down early and mitigate some damage. Late game, this can be sacrificed to shrapnel blast as a finisher.

3: Relic of Progenitus and Surgical Extraction because I hecking HATE hogaak vine and arclight phoenix decks.

4: Anger of the Gods , Slagstorm , and Flame Slash are there fire decks like humans and spirits that get out of hand very quickly.
