Hi there,
this is my interpretation of a deck I saw a couple of months ago on Youtube (Link is below). I loved the
Nest of Scarabs
since it came out and build the first version of this deck with it as the main component. For this build I sadly had to get rid of it. :( That's because I wanted to push the combo potential of the deck and yeah, I wanted to try as much combo as possible in one deck. That's why I switched from Golgari to Abzan, cause I needed
Vizier of Remedies
for my plans.
The deck starts off with a classic and well known core combo of three specific creatures:
Viscera Seer
,
Vizier of Remedies
and
Kitchen Finks
. The combo is using
Viscera Seer
to sacrifice the
Kitchen Finks
to scry 1, then the persist triggers on the
Kitchen Finks
comes back. However, due to
Vizier of Remedies
's ability, the
Kitchen Finks
returns without a -1/-1 counters on it, so the combo can be activated over and over again, giving u 2 life every time. So it's on u to pick a life number that make u basically untouable. Most of the time it's enough to get 10.000 life and the burn player will concede. When u dislike gaining infinite amounts of life like I do, u will be happy to hear that I include
Zulaport Cutthroat
in this combo, to u can drain ur opponent with every sac of ur
Kitchen Finks
.
The second combo in the deck is the classic "infinite" green mana combo, u all know from the "Devoted Druid" deck. It's a two card combo, between
Vizier of Remedies
and
Devoted Druid
.
Devoted Druid
taps for mana, then wants to untap itself. For that,
Devoted Druid
needs to put a -1/-1 counter on itself. However,
Vizier of Remedies
lets me put that many -1/-1 counters on it minus one, in this case resulting in 0. So u still put the counter on it, activating the ability, but our lovely Vizier takes away the counter before it can stick. So hear u go.....infinite green mana.
The third combo is an "infinite" draw/drain and token combo, that's what I would call it. It is a fun combo, but definitely really clunky: You need
Hapatra, Vizier of Poisons
,
Quillspike
,
Devoted Druid
,
Obelisk Spider
and
Yawgmoth, Thran Physician
. So that's the creature's we need on the field, sorry for that.
Devoted Druid
taps for mana, then wants to untap itself. For that,
Devoted Druid
needs to put a -1/-1 counter on itself. Now not the Vizier is doing the work, here comes
Quillspike
in. You can use the floating mana to activate the ability from
Quillspike
and eats the -1/-1 counter from the Druid and grow him by +3/+3. Now that's when the fun part really starts. With this combo
Devoted Druid
, growing
Quillspike
infinite, tiggers with every -1/-1 counter placed on Druid
Hapatra, Vizier of Poisons
. We ignore her first ability and go straid to her second ability, that say's every time a -1/-1 is placed on a creature u create a 1/1 snake token with deathtouch, so with nobody stopping you
Quillspike
growns happiely and u get an infinite amount of 1/1 tokens. When to this awesome mix we also control an
Obelisk Spider
, we literally drain our opponent out. Because
Obelisk Spider
's second ability say's, every time a -1/-1 counter is placed on a creature you gain 1 life and ur opponent loses 1 life. As you can see
Yawgmoth, Thran Physician
is just the cherry on the cake. You pay 1 life and sacrifice another creature and put a -1/-1 counter on a creature and draw a card. So u sac a token produced with
Hapatra, Vizier of Poisons
and place a -1/-1 counter on a creature, maybe ur opponent controls and draw. Because u placed a -1/-1 counter on a creature
Hapatra, Vizier of Poisons
triggers, you get a 1/1 token, also
Obelisk Spider
triggers so you gain 1 life and your opponent loses 1 life. This is how you draw cards, make tokens and drain ur opponent out.
The other reason why I splashed white is the for the protection package. I really like the two
Ranger-Captain of Eos
as well as
Lurrus of the Dream-Den
to play my combo pieces from the graveyard.
I am so happy to finally see my first combo deck. The sideboard is pretty classic, I play a lot of protection and disabler against other deck, like
Chalice of the Void
.
