Commander Horizons —June 5, 2019

I didn't expect to get this many amazing commander cards from modern horizons, but I'm glad I was wrong. Urza is busted beyond belief, new swords are decent, canopy lands and talismans slot into almost every multicolored deck, and snow covered reprints are always welcome. For this deck, surprisingly horizons yields us less new stuff than war did, but war was a godsend. For starters...

Yawgmoth, Thran Physician is probably the best addition for this deck. Evaluating him might be difficult at first because he's a lot to take in. However, the only part you really need to read is "Pay 1 life, sac a creature: draw a card." We would easily play this effect since it basically combines Dark Prophecy with Viscera Seer, something we would've already paid 4 mana for.

Talisman of Hierarchy, Prismatic Vista, and Silent Clearing are easy includes. They each provide good fixing for few costs.

Force of Despair seems really good. Even at 3 mana, killing multiple select opposing creatures is pretty good. The flexibility of being a possible zero mana is really what pushes it over the top. At worst, it's basically just a murder, but murder isn't actually that bad in commander.

Winds of Abandon and Generous Gift are interesting and worth testing at least, but I'm pretty sure they're not better than our current removal suite. Winds might prove me wrong though. We'll see.

Ranger-Captain of Eos is cute, but very probably not better than Ranger of Eos without the double tutor. He also can't be pulled with Recruiter of the Guard, so he's very very very probably not better.

Defile looks almost good, but it seems a bit too inconsistent with my current manabase. If you want to sacrifice some color consistency, you could make it a lot better with more swamps. Removal in this deck is already great, so I'm not keen on doing that myself.

Yawgmoth, Talisman, Vista, Clearing, and Force of Despair in, Divine Visitation, Thought Vessel, Flesh Carver, and 2x plains out.

Darkest hour doesn’t go infinite. All creatures are black. Not all creatures are black in addition to. You’ll never have white creatures to sack.

collinaw Good catch. Darkest Hour doesn't go infinite with Teysa, Orzhov Scion alone. However, it still does go infinite with any other sac outlet.

What do you think about the Black finale from the war of the spark set?

Henryu Personally, I don't like it. It's too expensive to justify its effects. Most of the time, I see it being either a bad Hex or a bad Rise of the Dark Realms . The only thing it has going for it is its versatility, and for such an expensive spell that's pretty bad at <4 mana, its not even that versatile.

If you feel like you need more late-game finishers, I'd run Exsanguinate , Rise of the Dark Realms , or Debt to the Deathless . If more mass removal, Damnation , Austere Command , or maybe something like Attrition .

EDIT: The card in question: Finale of Eternity

I really like Angelic Purge as a sac outlet/removal spell.

skroes Purge is definitely above average with this deck. If you need more removal, it's not a bad option, but I personally wouldn't play it over the removal I have already
