GREETINGS!

Innistrad: Crimson Vow has provided me with several interesting directions to take Zombie Tribal. This build explores the Exploit mechanic and taking advantage of death with Necroduality, Headless Rider, and Skull Skaab.

OVERVIEW

The goal is to generate as many Zombies as possible as fast as possible, then kill everything with The Meathook Massacre. With a Massacre ongoing, I can continue generating Zombies and draining the opponent of life as my Zombies die.

CARD CHOICES

Exploit

Larder Zombie, Shambling Ghast, and Wretched Throng are great targets for Exploit, especially for Skull Skaab, which needs to Exploit a non-token creature to generate a Zombie token.

Fell Stinger is Sign in Blood with legs, and is useful as a blocker as well as a targeted life-loss spell.

Zombie Generators

Skull Skaab generates tokens as I Exploit my non-token Zombies, while Headless Rider always generates a token when a non-token Zombie dies.

Im on the fence with Necroduality. It seems too slow at 4 CMC. It does nothing when it hits the board, and I have to cast a Zombie the following turn to take advantage of it. However, if Necro is on the board and I cast a Zombie with Exploit, I can trigger Exploit by sacrificing the copy of Zombie. Plus multiple Necros stack. I’m running as many low-CMC creatures as possible, so I can trigger Necro multiple times per turn and replenish the horde after a board wipe.

Card Advantage

Fell Stinger draws 2 cards if I Exploit another Zombie or itself.

Larder Zombie utilizes untapped Zombies to filter through my library, (like a slower, fatter Cryptbreaker).

Wretched Throng thins the deck each time it dies and provides me with another non-token body to sacrifice.

Finishers

Graf Reaver is a 3/3 powerhouse for 2 mana, with the potential to destroy a Planeswalker when it enters the battlefield. This Zombie generates the most value when copied with Necroduality (essentially 6/6 for 2 mana).

Champion of the Perished has the potential to grow huge as Zombie tokens flood the board. A large Champion can survive The Meathook Massacre, then move in for the kill once the board is clear.

Reanimation

Agadeem's Awakening   is both a reanimation spell and land. I can use it to bring back multiple Zombies from the grave and also trigger Exploit when they enter the battlefield. Each creature in the deck is 3 CMC or less to take advantage of Awakening, since this deck runs lean on mana.

Removal

Bloodchief's Thirst is useful both early and late game for eliminating a problematic creature or Walker.

The Meathook Massacre wipes the board and can be strategically timed to maximize token generation, life-gain for myself, and life-loss for the opponent. Each new copy of Massacre I play erases the old copy, so I can wipe the board repeatedly. I want a Headless Rider on the board when I do this, so I can generate tokens after my non-token Zombies die.

Geistwave bounces a permanent, enabling me to bounce Massacre or a Zombie with Exploit back to my hand, or bounce an opponent’s permanent. If I bounce my own permanent, I draw a card in the process.

I’m also considering You Come to a River for the ability to make a Champion of the Perished unblockable.

SIDEBOARD

Extra copies of Bloodchief's Thirst are here for additional removal against creatures and Walkers.

Crippling Fear is a one-sided wipe and provides extra support against creature-heavy decks.

Feed the Swarm doubles as creature and enchantment removal.

Mindleech Ghoul exiles a card from the opponent’s hand when it exploits a creature, which is useful against other decks utilizing the graveyard.

Overcharged Amalgam is an Uber-Counterspell strapped to a flying Zombie body.

Ravenform provides support against decks running artifacts or troublesome indestructible creatures. The 1/1 Bird token is easily wiped with The Meathook Massacre.

EXCLUSIONS

Bladestitched Skaab is a mini-Lord, but this deck sacrifices creatures frequently, and the Skaab won’t last long enough on the board to make a difference.
