The last update for 2018 —Dec. 11, 2018

Hello,

after several months of guiding Nath in a competitive environment, I decided to make the following changes:

OUT:

  • Geier Reach Sanitarium : Based on the average cmc that is still gradually dropping, I felt it was time to cut the 'worst' land from the list.
  • Llanowar Wastes : This cut was made to make room for a new land that is needed when looking at our local meta.
  • Mana Web : It still is a powerfull effect, but in my meta it doesn't do enough to still warrant a place in a deck where space is precious.
  • Damnation : A tough choice, but I felt it was the least impactful cut from my removal package.

IN:

  • Bojuka Bog : Graveyard decks are on the rise and this land is a must-have when you are facing several decks with graveyard interactions.
  • Priest of Titania : Having an opening hand with mana acceleration is desperately needed with Nath. An extra mana piece felt in place and this card is also really powerful lategame for a card like Torment of Hailfire.
  • Grafdigger's Cage : Same as with the bog; we need more answers to the graveyard shenanigans...
  • Assassin's Trophy : Mass removal subbed for targeted permanent removal. More control over threats on the board feels comfortable.

If you have any questions? Please post them below, as I am always happy to discuss cards and strategies. If you like what you are seeing, then leaving an upvote is always appreciated.

A new deckupdate has been posted at the top @ dsgrave

Vona's Hunger is not delivering what we really need in a competitive environment. Sure it has some nice potential removal, but many times it will miss the vital pieces that need to be dealt with. Fleshbag Marauder has the added benefit that it does nearly the same and can be found easier with several available tutors. But still I made the choice to cut them all together for more consistant options.

Hope it makes sense and helps you decide what is best for your build.

PartyJ Great deck and primer! +1 from me :) Will there be any new updates, since the new set Guilds of Ravnica has been released; like Assassin's Trophy for example?

Hello Hipparchos, thank you for the kind words.

I am currently looking at some possible modifications for this deck. Expect a deck update in the near future.

Hey so I really love this list. I am currently upgrading my Nath deck as I go and this list has been a huge inspiration and help. My big question though is why are you not running Phyrexian Tower. The ability to drop a token for 2 extra mana seems really good, and at worst you can tap an elf, tap tower and sac the elf to make a total of 3 mana. That means with 1 dork and tower Nath comes out 2 turns earlier or just helps late in game for a more explosive play.
