Under the premier commander Sidisi, Undead Vizier, the main focus is to tutor the first wincon of the deck, using Thrumming Stone to "swarm" Rat Colonys into play.

Thrumming Stone gives all your Rat Colony Ripple 4. Statistically speaking, you should be able to "cast/play" (there's no difference) all of the Rat Colonys out in one turn.
Giving you (ideally) thirty-five, 37/1's.

As soon as possible, tutor Thrumming Stone with Sidisi, Demonic Tutor, or Increasing Ambition. Until then, you'll usually play your early game about the same.

You'll most certainly draw at least 1-3 Rat Colony in your first few turns. Play them, but always hold onto one.

Play As many artifacts as possible before you begin your swarm.
If you get lucky enough to draw Stone early, there are other cards you can tutor, or have drawn, for a quick, swarm-win:

  • Altar of the Brood- Makes opponent(s) mill for every permanent entering under your control. This isn't enough to truly consider a wincon, but devastates the opposing strategy; and can win later, coupled, with Marrow-Gnawer, or Ogre Slumlord.

  • Aetherflux Reservoir- This card should be played as early as possible, before swarming the battlefield.

Scenario: Let's say you swarm 30 Rats with Thrumming Stone.
(Rat resolves)
Aetherflux Reservoir: +1 life
(Rat resolves)
Reservoir: + 2 life
(Rat resolves)
Reservoir: + 3 life
After all is resolved, you'll have gained a total 465 life!

Resevoir's second ability allows you to pay 50 life, to do 50 damage to any target. For the math impaired, you can defeat any 9-10 opponents/planeswalkers/creatures that arent above 50 life/loyalty/toughness.

I consider this alone a wincon, as the resulting aggressive board presence and resulting pseudo-fixed deck, is usually enough disadvantage to make most opponents scoop.

Marrow-Gnawer is my chosen alternate commander, and true by-the-numbers wincon. Marrow-Gnawer + Thornbite Staff , is a very cheap, effective combo to flood the board with rodents for a go-wide, aggro strategy.

Pack Rat- A x/x equal to the number of rats you control (see also Swarm of Rats), with the added ability of trimming hand-fat.

Evasion also plays an important part in an aggro wincon. Gnawer gives all rats fear, which turns just 4 Rat Colonys into a potential 2-turn game winning situation. Other forms of evasion are available as well:

Piper of the Swarm- Gives rats Menace comes with his own token producing ability.

Ogre Slumlord- Deathtouch buff.

Rogue's Passage- Unblockable for any pumped Rat.

Graveyard interaction is limited, but used for maximum effect. A wise choice in card return can turn the tables in some very dire situations with this deck.

Animate Dead- Two mana to return a key creature to the battlefield.

Buried Ruin- Land with Artifact recurrence.

Elixir of Immortality- If used wisely, it's extremely hard to get rid of. This gives another shot at a Rat Colony swarmimg wincon.

Fortuitous Find- Returns a valuable creature card to your hand, with the added benefit of getting a useful Artifact back as well.

Ogre Slumlord- Replaces dying Rat Colony with smaller (but only slightly less annoying) regular rats... Or any dying creature with those same rats. Preventing boardwipes from completely rendering you helpless, and very vulnerable.

Swarmyard- Vermin regeneration.

Lands that do stuff are the heartbeat of any commander deck.

Buried Ruin- For (but obviously not limited to) the recurrence of Thrumming Stone.

Cabal Stronghold- A black mana for each Basic Swamp you control? Yes, please! (This does not count nonbasic lands altered by Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth.

Nykthos, Shrine to Nyx Devotion based mana source.

Rogue's Passage- Unblockable buff.

Swarmyard- Because Regeneration.

Tectonic Edge- Land destruction isn't a bad thing to have handy.

Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth- All lands become Swamps, so you can produce black mana with your colorless producing land.

Once a game of EDH begins to pass turn 5, things can get crazy and having options in your hand is the best way to deal with any situation.

Arguel's Blood Fast  - Pay 2, Lose 2, Draw. Transforms into Temple of Aclazotz, for some lifegain when things are at their worst. Works well with Pack Rat or Stoneforge Masterwork.

Erebos, God of the Dead- Mainly for draw, but it's also Indestructible and keeps your opponents from gaining life.

Grim Haruspex- Played face down until a boardwipe hits the Stack.

Phyrexian Arena- Additional draw, every turn, at the cost of 1 life.

Removal is necessary to keep the board threats to a manageable level. And since we are using black, we have many options available to us.

Dictate of Erebos- You know that old saying, "an eye for an eye"? This is exactly what this does. Keeps the boardstates pretty even all around.. Or at least in your favor.

Languish- Sure, it's gonna wipe your rats out. But, if you can tutor or draw Elixir of Immortality before it becomes necessary to use, you'll have a second shot at a Thrumming Stone win.

Ogre Slumlord- Gives all rats Deathtouch; making them extra icky to deal with.

Hero's Downfall- Instant spot removal of problem creatures and planeswalkers.

Royal Assassin- Aggressor removal. Royal Assassin + Thornbite Staff makes for a semi-automatic sniper.

Tectonic Edge- Troublesome land destruction.
