Non-Elf Version —June 28, 2014

Obviously, a card that is bonkers in a deck like this is Eidolon of Blossoms....she draws for herself as well as your other 8 enchantments! If you do this, I would suggest:

Out

In

This deck will draw more cards...no doubt about that...but you lose two potential win-con cards (Ezuri and one Wave); so it will feel far more "combo-ish". With the convo me and devotion aspects of the deck , however; most likely you will have NO problem getting to a fatty of choice with plenty of mana. Just wanted to provide another option for others wanting to see it!

Hey daemon_panda! Ha! Glad to hear the hand did ok even with one land :). Thank you SO much for the +1!

1 forest and 2 Utopia Sprawl . I drew into a second land and dropped Garruk, untapped the lands and dropped Elvish Archdruid . Turn 5 I drew into Nykthos, Shrine to Nyx and dropped Craterhoof. It was a really crummy hand, I probably would have mulliganed in a tourney. Spread the love on the +1 and have a look at my decks.

Mother of Heliod this is cool!

daemon_panda...awesome counters deck!! Having a Gyre Sage with 50+ counters on it is fun :).

Thanks so much XTowelie and notKingCole for the +1 and positivity!!!

I also have a Question for everyone ...I'm definitely gonna test it; but I've been thinking about switching out the Abundant Growth 's for Nylea's Presence and perhaps putting one additional non-basic in. The pro's are:

  1. Arbor Elf could the Untap Nykthos, Shrine to Nyx
  2. Allows me to Utopia Sprawl without a 2nd Forest.
  3. Helps guard me from Blood Moon and my own sideboard. Magus of the Moon .
  4. I could get sneaky and put a 1-of Elvish Champion in the main or board and put it on my opponent's land so my elves all become unblockable :). This may be a little too cute though.

Cons:

  1. Costs 2-Mana. This is a BIG deal and could effect early playability.
  2. Opens me up to all forms of land walk.

Love to hear other thoughts. Thanks in advance for everyone's time and thoughts.

From playtesting it a few time's . It is really fun to play I don't think 2 mana for a land enchanter is good tho. Since you will be wanting to do lot's of ramping on turn 2-3

I agree with XTowelie, the increased cost is a big deal and the landwalks could be problematic, but I don't see many of them around unless the opponent has some trick like enchanting your lands. That being said, getting to untap Nykthos whenever is also a big deal. I would recommend that you go for it.

I would also add that having nykthos arbor elf and the land enchantment at once, will not be a super common occurence.

June 19, 2014 12:39 a.m.

I think you may be right XTowelie....one thing I've loved about Abundant Growth was the fact that it was a 1-drop cantrip (so you were basically getting the devotion for "free")....and the Arbor Elf / Nykthos, Shrine to Nyx / Nylea's Presence combo may be a rare one....obviously after a Genesis Wave it is much more likely; but a wave large enough is generally going to win the game either way....seems like a "win more" situation that hurts more games than it helps (and the games it helps would probably be won anyways). I'm still going pay attention during testing to track if I would be better off with Nylea's Presence ; but for now the Abundant Growth 's are staying :)

im not sure if you would consider it but something to think about: Illusionist's Bracers lets you copy Arbor Elf activated ability allowing you to untap a forest twice. Arbor Elf s ability is not a mana ability because it has a target and does not directly add mana to your mana pool.

June 19, 2014 1:34 p.m.

What a neat idea G-frizz. It would make from some powerful Arbor Elves! I'll have to give it a try. My only concern is that it is a little too focused on only Arbor Elf and may turn into kind of a "win more" situation; but I'll try it out because it's an idea I never had and you never know until you test! Thanks do much for the idea.

hey no problem, in my deck i use for fun with friends I run some Argothian Elder s as well. Sooooooo much mana =)

June 20, 2014 5:36 p.m.

Yeah...I've been trying all kinds of things...a 1-of Voyaging Satyr , some haste-enablers, Phyrexian Revoker in the sideboard, etc. Its actually made it harder having quick acces to a ton of mana and having both card-draw and tutors :). Opens up a lot if possibilities. That; and this deck has a lot more "play" than all of the green decks I've played in the past. You have to make a lot if decisions to set up the next turn. I like it though! I don't mean to complain.

I looked into a less elf-centric version with Courser of Kruphix and Eidolon of Blossoms (as she draws a TON off of all the enchantments including the Abundant Growth and Utopia Sprawl s; but it came at the expense of Ezuri, Renegade Leader , who actually has turned out to be rather important (especially after a Genesis Wave if and when the only non-summoning-sick creatures you have are two elves)....its a tough trade off...more card draw at the expense of one win-con...but as always, test test test :). Wish I had 30 hours in a day :)

As always thanks to everyone got the ideas and +1's! Just beat Affinity with a turn-3 Craterhoof Behemoth ...so feel good about where the deck is. Still got some work to do on the sideboard. Thanks again for everyone's input.

Thanks atlantis55555! Elves should win every format :) They're doing great in legacy, and it looks like they may be coming back in M15 and the following sets for Standard! Let's keep our fingers crossed. Thanks for the comments and +1!

Very nice deck. Good job. +1

June 23, 2014 5:59 p.m.

Thanks kj72454! I really enjoy playing it.

June 23, 2014 7:43 p.m.

Trying out a 1-of Elderscale Wurm in the main board. I found myself actually having a little more mana than I needed; but there is a definite balance; so I have to be careful changing too much....took out one Elvish Visionary as I found between 4 of each of these and Coiling Oracle I was playing a lot of 2-drop's! I LOVE card-draw though, so it may go back just as easily; but Elderscale Wurm is a win-con against half the decks in the meta; so it's great to have available in game one. We'll see. I'd love to know what everyone thinks....like the idea? Would you remove a different card? Thanks in advance for your time and thoughts!

Hall of the Bandit Lord Might help to hasten a few things early game for you. Might even speed up the ramp!

+1 though. I've incorporated peices of this into my Gaia deck.

Have you thought of adding Master Biomancer it is an elf, acts as like a mini Joraga Warcaller

June 24, 2014 3:38 p.m.

Caligula....I really like that idea! Haste is a really big deal (and even more so after a Genesis Wave if we could use Garruk Wildspeaker to untap the land...I have to be careful not to get too many non-Forest lands in here; but this may definately be worth a slot...great suggestion! I'll be trying it out immediately.

June 24, 2014 4:52 p.m.

Crazybop09....I absolutely love Master Biomancer . I have tried to get him in a deck for over a year! He just seems like he can be so powerful!

Funnily enough, he has sort of a "mini-combo" with Joraga Warcaller ...I built a casual "Elf Beatdown" deck with both of them...Master Biomancer puts more +1/+1 counters on Joraga Warcaller who then beafs up any future Biomancers, who puts more counters on future Warcallers, and on and on! They make HUGE elves very quickly (and it get's really crazy off of a Genesis Wave :)

The biggest problem I've found with Master Biomancer is his cost. It's always an easy out to say "this card would have been better if it costed less..." but in this case I honestly do think he was miss-costed. He would be a more effective card as a 2/2 for three mana. It's hard to invest 4-mana into a creature who has no effect on the board until you cast ANOTHER creature. He just seems too slow for a card that I feel like they were hoping may see some Modern play....I understand that the 4-toughness puts him out of bolt range so that he is more resilient; but at 4-CMC he is too slow to have any major effect on the board unless you put him in a grindy deck that means to slow the game down. I did feel like he may have some good use in either an Elf Combo deck that utilized him or oddly enough with Master of Waves as he makes it so all of the tokens stay on the board in the event that the Master of Waves is destroyed/exiled.

Someday a card will be spoiled that breaks Master Biomancer wide open...they were close with Ooze Flux (although thus far I've only found a 4-card combo with this :)....it's a great card with a unique ability; and in the right build (where his ability can be built around maybe with things like Gyre Sage he could be unreal! Great suggestion!

Yeah i think Master Biomancer is probably to slow for a competitive deck, but im trying to make my elves as competitive as possible, what are your opinions are dropping a singleton eldrazi or something else to the main board? as another possible win con
