Introduction

Mizzix of the Izmagnus commander deck, utilizing control to increase the length of the game and so give us time to obtain the cards to win. The strategy is to assemble the correct cards, mostly in the hand, in order to gain infinite mana and storm, which we then use to kill our opponents by direct damage spells. Spell copying is a vital part of the strategy and is both required by the many combos and may also increase the impact of control and removal spells. The commander's ability reduces the cost of instant/sorcery spells, allowing us to use more powerful spells, activate combos, and achieve the various win conditions much faster than otherwise possible.

The Laboratory Maniac/Thassa's Oracle strategy should probably be included, but I've purposefully avoided it since I personally don't like winning this way (I don't mind other people using it though). The same goes for Mechanized Production and the (in)famous Isochron Scepter + card:Dramatic Scepter combo. In addition, the Turnabout-like spell Reset can easily (and probably should) be included as most of our engines rely only on instants or permanents. It's lower mana cost not only enables mana engines earlier, but also creates additional paths to infinite mana as we can use Izzet Guildmage directly on the land-untapper instead of going through a spell-copier (which we have to do with Turnabout). Also, the (in)famous combo is always a valid and cheap strategy for infinite mana.

Infinite Combos and Win Conditions

Infinite Mana + Infinite Storm (Reiterate Mana Engine)

*Notation: 'X mana/untap' means X amount of mana produced by nonland permanents such as mana rocks. Unless prefixed by 'colored_', the mana color is irrelevant.
Reiterate + Turnabout(land) / Reality Spasm(X=7)
Reiterate + Twinning Staff / Bonus Round + Turnabout(land) / Seething Song
Reiterate + Bonus Round / Primal Amulet  (flip) + Turnabout(land) / Reality Spasm(X=4)
Reiterate + Dramatic Reversal + X colored_mana/untap(X≥7)
Mizzix of the Izmagnus + Reiterate + Pyretic Ritual(4XP) / Desperate Ritual(4XP) / Turnabout(land) / Seething Song(2XP)
Mizzix of the Izmagnus + Reiterate + Twinning Staff / Bonus Round + Pyretic Ritual(1XP) / Desperate Ritual(1XP)
Mizzix of the Izmagnus + Reiterate + Dramatic Reversal(X·XP) + Y colored_mana/untap (X+Y≥7, X≤4)

If Ral, Storm Conduit is in play, all XP or colored_mana/untap requirements in the above can be reduced by 1. The same goes for the cost in Reality Spasm.

Note that if Turnabout or Reality Spasm are used in any of the above, the engine may yield an infinite amount of    mana in addition to  .

The tilde (~) in front of 'inf.' above is used to indicate that the amount of mana produced by the combo is limited to the number of cards in the library, as each iteration loots 2 cards.

Infinite Spell Copying (Spell Copy Combo)

Having gained infinite mana, we can use the following combos to infinitely copy any instant or sorcery spell:

[inf. ] + Reiterate + (spell to be copied)
[inf. /] + Izzet Guildmage + Increasing Vengeance / Twincast + (spell to be copied)
[inf. ] + Nivix Guildmage + (spell to be copied)

Infinite Mana Filtering

Win/Kill Conditions

Explanation for the Electrodominance combo: Cast Electrodominance (ED) with X=3 (from XP counter). Hold priority and cast Reiterate targeting ED, and pay 3 for its Buyback cost (free due to XP). The copy of ED resolves and deals 3 dmg to any target and you can cast something that costs 3cmc or less from your hand for free. Use this to cast Reiterate for free targeting ED and pay its buyback cost (free due to XP). We now have another copy of ED. Rinse and repeat to win.

Appendix

Note that cost-reducers (such as the commander, Mizzix of the Izmagnus) also reduce the mana cost of any alternate or additional mana cost, such as 'buyback', 'flashback', 'overload', 'kicker', etc. In other words: (mana cost OR alternate cost) + (additional costs) - (cost reductions) = total casting cost.
