The fetch lands work really good with Hedron Crab . I also found that Memory Sluice and Grimoire Thief work really well together for both mill and counter magic.

Duskmantle Guildmage and Mindcrank is a NASTY combo. I would take out the Tormented Soul if you dont have any ciphers. If you were to add 4x Fog Bank it can add a good level of protection to allow you time to get your combos up and going. If you take a look at my Singleminded Mill I think it has some pretty good combos, and it has been extremely consitant. Hope it helps, not that it looks like you need it LOL. Nice combos

Thanks man! Tormented Soul is another kill condition with the Duskmantle Guildmage , triggers the combo just the same as Hedron Crab . I am almost wanting to take out the Grindstone combo to fit in Fog Bank and some Counterspell . Thanks for the input! +1 if you like. ;)

Even though I'd have to say I'm not a mill person, I also have to say I like this deck. It's got a little bit of everything! From the old school Mindcrank to that cool new combo you found, great favorites like Hedron Crab and Glimpse the Unthinkable , all the way to Painter's Servant and Grimoire Thief . I'm gonna save this is my favorites folder so I can try it out.. Great build man! +1

Derp, I meant old school Grindstone not Mindcrank ! :::::facepalm::::: lol

Thanks man! It seems to run pretty good but I'm sure there's adjustments that would help. Test play it up and let me know if you think of anything. Thanks for the +1.

Hey man, with this update, your deck is a copy of mine! Infinite Mill Deck Happy to see someone with good ideas!

LOL! No way. Very similar indeed. I took the Grand Architect Idea from another deck of mine. Took out Grindstone combo to make it Modern. Thanks man.

Maybe think about adding fetch lands instead of dual lands? I use Drowned Catacomb and Darkslick Shores because are cheaper, but you might consider the others, since you have hedron crab in addition to duskmantle for an alternative win con.

Correct, me if I am wrong but I don't think Grand Architect + Pili-Pala is going to net you infinite mana. The architect requires you tap the untapped creature for 2. Pili-Pala requires 2 and T to get one mana of any color. Am I missing something?

Why do you maindeck Tormod's Crypt? Why 4?

Aside from Spellskite you need ways to interact with/disrupt whatever the opponent is doing. You need things like mana leak, remand, etc.

tehaxor, if you attack with the Pili-Pala than tap Grand Architect to add 2 colorless to your mana pool, you can use that 2 colorless mana to untap Pili-Pala adding one blue to use Grand Architect 's other ability to make Pili-Pala blue. Than you tap Pili-Pala to add 2 colorless and use that to untap it adding any color you need an infinite amount of times. I am always sure to research a combo idea before I implement it. Thanks anyways.

Tata, I suppose I don't need 4 of them but there are cards like Gaea's Blessing that will stop me dead in my tracks with out it. I put in Elixir of Immortality to assure it's cycled how ever many times I need to use it. I also put in 2x Mana Leak on top of the Muddle the Mixture I have in there giving me 6 counter effects. Thanks for the suggestions. Upvotes are always appreciated.

I suppose I could put in a couple more Tormod's Crypt in my sideboard per chance they have a way to sift through my deck to remove it. I think that's why I put 4 in there to begin with.

@tehaxor Here's how you do it, but Pili-Pala must already be tapped:
(1) Tap the Grand Architect for 2 colorless mana. (+2 colorless)
(2) Untap the Pili-Pala and float one blue mana from it. (-2 colorless --- we don't have any more colorless now, +1 Blue)
(3) Use the mana to make Pili-Pala temporarily blue through Grand Architect 's ability (-1 Blue, empty mana pool now.)
(4) Now that it is blue, you can tap Pili-Pala for 2 colorless mana (because Grand Architect 's ability affects all blue creatures). Go ahead and do that. (+2 colorless)
(5) Use the 2 colorless mana to untap Pili-Pala , and float one extra mana of any color. (-2 colorless --- once again, no more colorless, +1 mana of any color)
(6) Repeat step (4). (+2 colorless, still have 1 any-color mana)
(7) Now do step (5) again, and float another mana of any color (-2 colorless --- no more colorless, +1 more any-color mana --- we now have 2 mana of any color, and if we do it again, we have 3, then 4, then 5, 6, 7, ... infinite.)

Thank you TheAnnihilator, you definetly explained that better than I could. I can either attack with Pili-Pala or tap him with Gigadrowse per chance they have a blocker. It's an effective combo if I can get it out. Great for multiplayer but I still need some help with sideboard. Suggestions are welcome and up votes are appreciated.

I completely misread the text on the Pili-Pala . I did not realize that it was an "untap" symbol. Now it makes sense. Thank you!

No problem. It's my favorite combo right now. Cheap and effective.

Nykthos, Shrine to Nyx for some ramp?

Astoundingly fun deck! And could very well be competitive as well. I've always lived the Grand Architect + PilPal combo; but never have I seen it used this way . Creative and appears to be relatively fast. Transmute can be slow in Modern; but with a semi-control deck you will have the extra 1-2 turns you need; and you only need to transmute IF you're missing a piece. I wouldn't be surprised if this did well in a daily. Great deck! +1 of course.

Thank you CurdBrosBrewingCo that means a lot! I've been trying to gain the nerve to compete in modern, and you just gave me a confidence boost buddy. XD I need some help with sideboard, maybe some subtle tweaks than I'll try it out at FNM.

No prob bob. ;)

Mono-colored sideboards can be rough in Modern given everything out there; but a few cards I think would be good here are:

  1. Torpor Orb - this is a cheap way to shut off Twin and Kiki-Pod combos as well as Snapcaster Mage and a Ton of other powerful creatures in Modern ....since all your creatures abilities are activated; it doesn't hurt you.

  2. Hurkyl's Recall - Huge help against Affinity and other artifact heavy decks.

  3. Threads of Disloyalty - Great against "Fair" decks. Steal their Tarmogoyf or other big efficient creature and the game shifts :). You could also use Vendalken Shackles (I'm not sure which is better; but the many blue mages on here will know :)

  4. Relic of Progenitus - Graveyard hate against all kinds of things (Living End, Goryo's decks, Snapcaster, Goyf, Ooze, etc.)

  5. Cyclonic Rift - Unsummon any problem permanent. Late game board clear.

  6. Spell Pierce / Negate - just good counters/protection against specific spells.

I'm trying to think of a good card against Storm (Relic and C.Rift help against Past in Flames or Pyromancer's Ascension or Goblin Electromancer .)

Other members will I'm sure have better/other ideas as well! Hope this helps a little.

That's a good start. I don't know whats out there so it my be beneficial to go watch 1 or 2 before I participate just to get a feel for the local meta. You gave me somewhere to start though, I certainly appreciate it.

This looks pretty awesome. I like it! I remember my first ever brew was a G/U self mill deck, and Mindshrieker was one of my favourite cards in it. +1
