Pauper Mono- Mill...

Mill aggressively. Mill as much as you can, as often as you can. Mill while walking the fine line of defending yourself as little as possible. Not recommended for multiplayer, lol.

  • Jace's Erasure is the key card in this deck. Mulligan until you get one, or just look for as much draw power early on as you can get and hope for the best.
  • Then cast Jace's Erasure and start drawing cards like crazy, which will mill your opponent. Meanwhile, cast the cards you draw to mill even more. Brainstorm is excellent here, because in addition to draw-fixing--as described below--it also triggers Jace's Erasure three times for a single .
  • Brainstorm is best when paired with a "shuffle effect," because typically you want to put "chaff" (like extra lands) back on top of your library. Then you use a shuffle effect, like Evolving Wilds or Stream of Thought to shuffle your deck and ensure that the next card you draw will not be that same "dead" one.
  • Alternately, follow Brainstorm up with Thought Scour on yourself--getting rid of the two cards you don't need and drawing a third, (hopefully) better option. Or use Gush's alternate casting cost to just draw those next two cards anyway, as well as a couple Islands (which you can pitch to another Brainstorm later, or just play again.
  • Persistent Petitioners is here to mill cards, of course, along with a single copy of Dramatic Reversal, just in case the opportunity ever comes up to use. Otherwise it can be Brainstorm fodder.
  • Beyond that, you can draw even more cards with Lonely Sandbar and the aforementioned Thought Scour.
  • Letting threats stick to the board is a bad idea. Prevent this with good ol' Unsummon & Counterspell.
  • Finally, some straight milling effects like Tome Scour and Mind Sculpt could finish an opponent off for you.
