Top 8 at TCGplayer Delaware State Championships —Nov. 1, 2016

I managed top 8 at the above event on 10/29/2016 using a variant of this build in which the counter spell battery and Cataclysmic Gearhulk were in the mainboard and Gideon, Ally of Zendikar stood in for Dovin Baan.

Generally speaking agro trumps control, control trumps mid-range, and mid-range stops agro decks. That being said I like the concept.

To me, Halimar Tidecaller is a much better inclusion than Embodiment of Insight, unless you're extremely reliant on the landfall mechanic. This could allow you to recur some cards with awaken, like your own Scatter to the Winds or add things like Roil Spout, which I have seen to great effect stifle other decks (no draw is killer). Lastly, having a lot of 4-5 drop creatures isn't what I would call effective vs control.I do have a list that I haven't updated since standard rotated, but it's a bit of fun to play and awaken all the lands. tapped out isn't letting me link it currently, but you can find it through my profile if you are curious :)

OOMJasonDavis I simply stated the play-style and intent of the deck, I gave no indication of any sort of archetype 'triangle'. The rock-paper-scissors approach usually falls apart when applied to MtG due to the complexity of the game.

Riptide789 The meta-game has changed drastically after the recent pro-tour. Control decks include 4x Thing in the Ice, 3x-4x Torrential Gearhulk, and an optional Sphinx of the Final Word. That being the case, having a number of 4-5 drops has not been an issue. I have included Embodiment of Insights' as they make late gate land drops relevant and remove the drawback of using lands as attackers, which works well with Nissa's +1 ability.
