Creature (1)

This deck is a colorless () build for Pauper EDH, using Glaring Fleshraker as the commander.

  • So I haven't ever built a Pauper deck before, but the best way I could see to introduce myself to the format was by making an EDH list, since it personally helps me visualize how to succeed with a concept.

  • I decided on Glaring Fleshraker because it happens to be one of my favorite uncommon ever printed. It also is a pseudo-engine for damn near anything and everything.

  • This deck is intended to help me explore the difference in power level between Pauper and typical edh play (within my group). I have no idea what to expect so I'm excited for the prospective play.

It's Free Real Estate

  • I'm creating a path to victory through Zero-Cost spells and cantrips. I included a lot of reputable Affinity pieces like Chromatic Sphere and Chromatic Star.

  • The intention is to pump Impulse draw and keep refilling my hand. Stuff like Darksteel Pendant and Ghoulcaller's Bell are meant to keep the top of our library fresh, and keep the chain of spells moving.

  • Another key component is fetching through our library for lands, mainly as a form of deck thinning. Cartographer's Companion and Skittering Surveyor are great examples of what I'm talking about.

Considering my lack of understanding for Pauper and it's power level, I'll base this entirely on the turn I intend on winning the game, and call this a (/) on the power scale. However, now that a Bracket system has been initiated, I believe I would re-classify this list as a Bracket 3, because I happen to believe this deck is stronger than a pre-constructed commander deck.

Considering our colors and arrangement- by that I mean colorless and having essentially no instants and sorceries (shut up, I know). So we're going to have a bunch of really simple, methodical pieces that operate efficiently. Chromatic Star and Chromatic Sphere are great examples of the efficiency I aim to exploit.

We'll use plenty of cantrips like the aforementioned Star and Sphere, and other things such as Expedition Mapfoil to make up the other important piece of construction and deck-building, which is going to be deck-thinning. In EDH, typically you've got a ton of spells that draw alongside bonus effect here. That, coupled with fetchlands typically push you through about a third of your library by game's end.. all of this with a grain of salt and for the sake of an example.

So in Pauper, you won't have access to the fetchlands like Windswept Heath, but you will have rinky dink artifacts, baubles and tools that love to cycle themselves away for the sake of a utility move.

So the overall construction reflects a balance of cantrip (Chromatic Sphere), deck-thinning (Expedition Mapfoil), and draw power (Introduction to Prophecy. What's not to love about that?

Arguably my very first Pauper construction, but not my first idea- that's for sure! I love that Glaring Fleshraker is an uncommon because it gave me access to all my favorite little tools and tricks, and moreover, that was the theme of the deck. A literal deck of throw-aways and "ten cent" artifacts screams toybox and when you get to create an army of mana-bodies to help runaway.. sigh so great...

Anyways, feel free to comment if you have experience with PDH or with Pauper in general, want to discuss this idea, have love/hate for me, who knows. Cheers!
