Finality —Jan. 2, 2022

Have finally achieved the final form of the deck! Granted, things might change soon with the upcoming Kamigawa set. But for now, this is the version of the deck that kicks the most ass, flows the smoothest, and actually functions as intended

The 2 main cards I can think of that would do well against blood moon in your shell are Manamorphose and Force of Vigor (only against actual Blood Moon, Magus of the Moon isn't hit). Manamorphose could even be a mainboard card, as it's only real downside is in consideration of mulligans (and Collected Company I guess). I would run 2 at most though if you go that route, as I found more to be detrimental if you aren't some kind of storm deck. Force of Vigor could go main or side if you want to try it, since a lot of your cards are green, really up to you, I would definitely say Manamorphose fits better though since it would help to mana-fix for you as well in matches not against Blood Moon, so it isn't a dead card.

Manamorphose dilutes the deck so much. It looks like the mainboard answer to moon is Skyclave Apparition here.

how do you plan to cast that after Blood Moon has resolved?

The only possible solutions I can think of are:
1. Float mana for an instant or creature with flash (can be any color the deck has access to)
2. Cast something after Blood Moon / Magus of the Moon (preferably 1 non colorless mana cost)

I'd say a flash creature with removal is the best bet, but I can't really think of any off the top of my head that fit the colors of the deck. Also, you'd want to look at how good that same answer is after Blood Moon if you don't have it in your starting hand (so try to keep the colored mana to a minimum).

I can start looking into flash creatures, as that sounds like it would be the best fit here.

The best solutions with that in mind that I could come up with are:

Caustic Caterpillar

Dawnbringer Cleric

Elvish Hexhunter

Masked Vandal

Ronom Unicorn

Well, good morning, nbarry223 and zapyourtumor! You are both pulling on my heart strings with this Blood Moon talk. That card still gives me horrible flashbacks haha. It is still one of the decks biggest problems, and especially with Urza's Saga for some reason not being banned yet, it's presence is bigger than ever. For the most part, I do okay just making sure I have a basic and a fetch in the first few hands, so I'm good to cast whatever I need, generally speaking. Skyclave Apparition is my best main board answer for sure, and if I'm in a position where I can Glittering Wish for Abrupt Decay, I'm probably able to just play around it. And that's what I try to do, really, especially with insistence on four basics, is just play around it. There have been awkward things I've done in the past, like Harmonic Sliver, if I just have G and W and can Wish, but it never really feels right. Always a constant battle with that card.

Manamorphose doesn't really feel right, either, it would still have the same problem as everything else. I would need at least two mana, from non basic lands, and multiple spells that work with each other.

All of those other suggested creatures are badass for sure, but they only target artifacts or enchantments. Skyclave Apparition is a main board mainstay because it can target anything, and they don't get it back.

The situation is rather complicated to say the least, and am definitely open to figuring out if there's an answer out there :D

tap 3 green creatures + 3 mountains for chord maybe i dunno

August 27, 2021 9:55 a.m.

nbarry223 says... #9

I suggested Manamorphose because you can use the mountain aspect of Blood Moon and pay to get any two colors you want, without losing card advantage. It does conflict with Collected Company a bit because of the fact that it isn't a creature, but other than that it is fairly solid.

For example, you can save a Manamorphose in hand and your turn after the Blood Moon resolves, you can play Manamorphose + Skyclave Apparition without needing a single white manasource, since you can filter your red mana into what you need.

You can even go Manamorphose into Collected Company or Birds of Paradise and further your boardstate and ignore the moon. Heck even Glittering Wish into Impromptu Raid seems viable after Manamorphose because you can then use your red mana to further your strategy potentially.

the only other suggestion I would have is Destructive Revelry in the sideboard, but that would only be useful strictly in the Blood Moon matchup, which is why I don't really see it as a serious option.

Unfortunately, the best creature I can come up with for permanent removal is Mangara of Corondor which is a bit slower than Skyclave Apparition because of the

August 27, 2021 4:55 p.m. Edited.

Right, I forgot I'd have red mana in the first place haha. But more to your second point, I'm already squeezing the life out of the deck with 12 spells. Even just a 13th would be crazy town. It is decent as an option for sure, but it has the same drawbacks as everything else. I would need to get it at the right time, have the other card I need in my hand, and it's only useful for blood moon. I'm not denying the deck needs a better answer, there just isn't really one at the moment that would fit all parameters the way I would want. Maybe I'm being too picky haha

I copied and pasted this deck's description into a Google Document. It is 2,776 words long and completely fills more than 3 pages when separated into slightly smaller paragraphs. It is more than twice as long as the maximum word count suggested by my World Literature teacher for our final paper.

I wish that I could write a final essay on a Modern MTG deck, but alas, I am stuck learning about age-old texts such as Beowulf and The Odyssey.

August 27, 2021 9:15 p.m.

First of all, both Beowulf and The Odyssey are badass AF! But yes, who would not rather be speaking on the glory of Magic the Gathering as opposed to any other subject? It's why my description is so long in the first place. I feel like detail is something people actually want, but only the right kinds. So I figured if I break this thing all the way down, it will get people thinking, talking, and learning about the whole thing way more than usual. And here we are!

So thank you for noticing, but always remember: it isn't the size of the description box that matters, it's how you use it

You can take a peak at my description, specifically:

Sideboarding > Card Choices > The Glittering Wish Package section

for further ideas on generic options if you wanted further ideas. Most relevant ones I can think of in your colors are:
Fracturing Gust
Batwing Brume
Wheel of Sun and Moon
Culling Ritual
Nature's Chant

but there's plenty more options, and I explain a few of the more 'silver-bullet' ones more in depth. Unsure if any of those deck types give you issues, but these have done wonders for me with only 2 wishes, so 4 wishes would just be that much more effective with silver-bullet hate when you are unable to complete a combo (if you're able to fit them in of course).

Viga-BOOM! (Turn 2)

nbarry223 says... #17

No, I was suggesting that maybe one of them could help in a matchup that you felt you needed a boost in, if you could find the space for it.

For example, Culling Ritual would probably be the one I would pick to be a best fit for the deck, if you could free up one spot. It pays for itself if you clear 4 things, and even ramps you if you are clearing more than 4 things. It's good against decks that have efficient mana-curves, like most modern decks do. I'm not quite sure how you fair against zoo-like decks, so maybe it is an unneeded option.

If you have the ability to wish for something that ends a game on the spot, great. If you don't, I was just saying maybe one or two answers would be beneficial if you could find the space. I don't know what kind(s) of decks are your toughest matchups either, so I just gave a bunch of options that have game ending potential against certain decks. I definitely wouldn't pick too many non-creature choices though, because these are sideboard cards that basically have to stay sideboard because of how your deck operates, while creature based options could go mainboard if desired.

September 9, 2021 9:25 p.m.

Ok, well let me take a step back and go the other direction, and explain my current sideboard choices:

Cartel Aristocrat, Good-Fortune Unicorn, and Kitchen Finks are the combo pieces.

Dina, Soul Steeper replaces Murderous Redcap, Conclave Mentor, and Cruel Celebrant as m, "what to do if infinite life isn't enough," card.

Abrupt Decay and Despark cover literally all single target removal possible.

Humiliate is the best hand interruption, and sometimes that counter placement can be the next piece of the combo puzzle.

Fiend Artisan and Knight of the Reliquary are my big beaters that also can look for other pieces if they're big enough to survive, which is why I would wish for them. Especially the Artisan, if my opponent is blowing up my creatures.

Athreos, God of Passage is if I can get ahead of creature removal and punishment my opponent for it.

Revival / Revenge is for when removal or mill or counterspells have gotten the better of me.

Vexing Shusher is so counterspells don't.

Impromptu Raid is for when I have infinite green mana on the board, and a Wish in my hand. Made all the more confident by the inclusion of Endurance. Also replacing a want for Wheel of Sun and Moon.

Dromoka's Command is for the Blood Moon slot, when fetching for basics isn't working and I don't have a Swamp for Abrupt.

Kambal, Consul of Allocation is for control or artifact decks thinking they're fancy.

Hopefully that will shed a little light on my thoughts, and why I went with what I went with. Sorry if I was a little abrasive earlier, didn't realize what you meant. Now hopefully we are on the same page :D

September 9, 2021 9:51 p.m.

The Glittering Wish package has always been something I've loved playing with over the years. This deck has the unique challenge of balancing combo pieces and silver bullets in one. I've tried so many different options over the years, and although the bigger spells have always been fun to think about using, I never actually reach for the things that cost 4 or more mana. It's so much more valuable to have all things I can cast in tandem with the Wish on turn 4 or 5, then trying to wait any longer or have to hold the card in my hand for a turn. These are the best ones I can think of that have the biggest and longest lasting impact I can think of. There are definitely a few weaknesses for sure, but I am definitely open to talking about them.

Creature decks are usually fine. I used to have a bunch of creature wipes in the form of lands or spells, but it was usually just easier to combo and win, since they were usually removal light and aggro happy at the wrong times. The meta has definitely gotten gnarlier with the newer cards, so definitely something to keep an eye on.

Tron is also one I'm always thinking about, but hopefully I can use the right bullets at the right time and be okay.

If there are other cards that can do things that I haven't thought of, I'm open to it. There's also always the possibility of switching a main board and side board option, like moving around Endurance or Skyclave Apparition. Or if there are better answers on the side for the slots that I've described the needs for. There's still so much possibility for the deck, especially with the second innistrad set coming soon!

So to me, that means that:

Cartel Aristocrat, Good-Fortune Unicorn, Kitchen Finks, Impromptu Raid and to a lesser extent Revival / Revenge, Fiend Artisan, Knight of the Reliquary are win-cons.

I'd say the first 4 in that list are definite staples that need to stay. Revival / Revenge seems to do it's job well too. Everything else does its job, but doesn't have haste or has some minor downside, so there's potentially room for improvement.

Personally, my top choices of everything I'm going to throw out there is as follows:

Liliana, Heretical Healer  Flip (maindeck recusion/utility)
Sigarda, Host of Herons (potential side anti-removal)
Dragonlord Dromoka (potential side anti-counterspell)

I also see a lot of cards in here to counter control/removal. Have you considered a bigger hexproof/shroud creature, or something that's just uncounterable and a threat? There's also recursion, which Revival / Revenge does a pretty good job at, but some other options I can think of for that are Liliana, Heretical Healer  Flip, Lurrus of the Dream-Den, Necropanther, Vesperlark or Nethroi, Apex of Death.

Also, I know you don't have red, but General Ferrous Rokiric seems like it would be a good consideration for that type of a slot. Hexproof agaianst most removal and it synergizes with all of the multicolored you have going on.

Better fits as far as colors go are Reaper of the Wilds, Sigarda, Host of Herons, Thrun, the Last Troll, Witchstalker, Carnage Tyrant, Loxodon Smiter or Dragonlord Dromoka. Some are wish targets while others aren't, figured i'd throw out anything that had potential though.

To me, a wish target has to either be low enough that you can cast it same turn, or big and strong enough that you can cast it next turn and it turns the game around/seals the deal.

I just think you have a lot of slots in the sideboard that accomplish the same basic thing and you might be able to get away with condensing it a bit more to give more versatility for broader answers like psuedo-board wipes, silver-bullets, etc.

So if all that rambling somehow allows you to free up maybe a slot or 2 and still cover everything you need to cover, then maybe you will have the space to consider a broader selection of counterplay instead of just furthering your own strategy.

There's also things like Vindicate that hit lands too, which could help with the tron match as well as covering basically everything.

September 10, 2021 12:06 a.m.

nbarry223 says... #21

Actually now that I think about it, there's also cards that just discourage a control player to play as a control player, like Voice of Resurgence.

September 10, 2021 12:15 a.m.

The Voice! That's actually a really timely suggestion, and solves an answer to creature pressure I was just thinking about as well. And don't worry, I haven't forgotten about you, Ursaromg. You were totally right, it just needed to be a little more dangerous out there for me to see how useful that thing can really be.

I'm still looking for the cheapest possible answers. I know the Fiend, Knight, and Athreos are kinda weak mode, but they are actually pretty amazing in the 3 mana or less slot. It's kind of a hard line in the sand for me from all my experience with this deck over the years. It never, ever works out well to Wish for a card, show it to your opponent, and then not use it and pass turn. I want to try and avoid that at all costs

September 10, 2021 12:34 a.m.

I've also tried Liliana before, and getting her to flip is just too unreliable. I went with Revival because it is just so direct and perfect and perfectly easy to cast it is just basically a straight up win con in and of itself as you said

September 10, 2021 12:38 a.m.

Vindicate is interesting, but just like Assassin's Trophy and Fulminator Mage, it just eventually ended up not being that useful to blow up one land one time for 4 or more mana
