Strixhaven Update —April 11, 2021
After playing this deck this week, I got inspiration to give it an overhaul. I found out that there were many goodies in the past few years I had missed out on that match very well with the deck’s premise, as well as many new cards from Strixhaven and Commander 2021.
- Beledros Witherbloom: A Verdant Force with many upsides. Love this card. Going back to 37 lands to fit it in.
- Gyome, Master Chef: A creature that churns out sac fodder while also granting indestructible to our best creatures. Revel in Riches makes room.
- Lathril, Blade of the Elves: a 4 drop that gets us more tokens as her power increases. Replaces Arasta of the Endless Web which would sometimes do nothing depending on my opponents.
- Pest Infestation: I did not have good enough artifact and enchantment removal as Wave of Vitriol would often hurt me more than my opponents. Easy swap.
- Valentin, Dean of the Vein Flip this card does a lot for this deck. The from is a similar card as Necrogenisis, except it also works when we do not pay. The backside can be a back-up mazirek when the situation calls for it, or can be a game-finisher with the trample.
- Wolverine Riders: Another Verdant Force type of card, but this one has synergy with Marwyn, the Nurturer and Latrhil. Taking out Servant of the Scale.
- Fain, the Broker: A Trading Post-type of card with 3 modes that we want in this deck. Sacrificing creatures? Check. Creating sac fodder? Check. Adding +1/+1 counters? Check! Nissa, Voice of Zendikar makes room.
- Nadier, Agent of the Duskenel: another creature that lets us turn counters into value. Replaces Grave Titan which wasn’t as on-theme.
- Bloodtracker: Another card that lets us turn counters into value that I missed. Taking out Disciple of Bolas for now.
- Priest of Forgotten Gods: I never gave this card a good enough read. Does a lot for this deck. Replaces Woe Strider.
- Deadly Brew: A tip from YourNeighborhoodGhost. Going to test it! Taking out Life / Death.
- Tergrid, God of Fright Flip: Look, they made It That Betrays cheaper! And they made it work with discard as well! Oh and there’s a wincon on the other side as well if you have infinite mana. Sorry It That Betrays, but you’re retirering.
Let me know what you think of the new version, and if there are more goodies that I missed :).
