Lovely idea. I might suggest running the white version of the blood mist card that came out a little while ago. The art has 2 axes behind a shield. I also suggest running the white version of royal assassin because there is no tap clause. Awesome idea !

alexander.rokicki, do you mean Duelist's Heritage and Dogged Hunter? If so, I love the first one. One mana cheaper than blood mist and can be used politically on an opponent's creature. The Dogged Hunter seems conditional though since it can only kill tokens.

Consider adding Karmic Justice, Martyr's Bond, and No Mercy. These help make you even less desirable to target and will help punish your opponents if they try anyways.

themagiczebra, thanks for the suggestions. I especially like the looks of Karmic justice and no mercy in here. I had Martyr's Bond on my short list but it didn't quite make the cut. Karmic Justice looks like a cheaper to cast alternative :)

I run a simliar style deck with the queen and I love watching the politics unfold behind my pillowfort. Budget pending, here are a few cards I would recommend based on my own experience:

Loxodon Gatekeeper, Kismet, and Thalia, Heretic Cathar are a bit redundant but the ability to tap things down is incredibly powerful and can give you some time to get your fort built up.

Ophiomancer is an amazing card since you can get another reliable deathtouch creature.

Grand Abolisher is a great deterrent on your turn even though he's not the most powerful creature.

Michiko Konda, Truth Seeker is another solid creature that can help deter attacking you.

Cool deck! No Mercy would be a good addition. Extra incentive for your opponents to cease attack.

Wizno, thanks for your suggestions. I have thrown Kismet in and will probably add Loxodon Gatekeeper if I pick one up.

How well does Ophiomancer perform in your deck. I like the idea of always having a deathtoucher. However I don't like that you have to wait until the next upkeep to get the first one. It would leave me vulnerable for a turn. Maybe I'm wrong on that. Just wondering how it actually performs.

Wizno Ohhhh... I totally misread the card. It's EACH upkeep that the snake is created if there isn't one, not just mine. That makes the card far better lol.

Ive always liked Ophiomancer. If you ever make it more cuthroat, you can use the tokens to fuel Contamination

Hey MegaMatt13! I'm glad you caught that key phrasing on Ophiomancer because it really does make it a solid card for pillow fort strategies and it performs quite well in my deck. As mentor6 mentioned, it's also good fuel for cards like Contamination or Smokestack. Those cards certainly make your deck cutthroat but also will shift your focus to more of a Pillowfort-Stax hybrid which is how I play my version of the deck. It's a solid strategy but it doesn't make friends. If you went that route (or even if you didn't) another card worth considering (budget pending) is Bitterblossom. Since you're running Bloodchief Ascension, you could toss in Mindcrank to combo off.

Since you're running cards to dissuade your opponents from attacking you, Darien, King of Kjeldor could be quite good in your deck. I would also recommend a Deflecting Palm as a saving grace from one huge source of damage.

Another powerful card to consider (again budget pending) is Toxic Deluge. Great way to get around indestructible things.

Kambal, Consul of Allocation is quite good too since he'll net you a lot of life if left unchecked for too long. Definitely a solid card for the Queen.

To fine tune your mana fixing a bit, I would consider the following:

Mana Confluence
Exotic Orchard
Reflecting Pool
Caves of Koilos
Sulfurous Springs
Battlefield Forge
Tainted Peak
Tainted Field
Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth
Sol Ring
Mardu Banner
Darksteel Ingot (I like this mana rock better simply for the indestructible)

Wizno, thanks for all your suggestions. I threw in Darksteel Ingot and Exotic Orchard for extra mana fixing. I'll probably pick up the cycle of painlands too.

How do you feel about Forbidden Orchard for fixing? it kinda fits into the political theme of the deck. Not sure if I want to give my opponents chump blockers though.

Only reason Sol Ring isn't in here is because it's banned in my playgroup.

In terms of the stax pieces, I'm trying to keep this deck quite casual and political. I like the direction you took yours in though.

Toxic Deluge is a great boardwipe and it's in a few of my decks. In this deck I think I have enough boardwipes that get around indestructible with Merciless Eviction and Hallowed Burial. If I find the deck needs another boardwipe I'll be adding Toxic Deluge though.

What about Subterranean Tremors? Its both a wipe and artifact removal. I guess it depends on if there are any breya or daretti players in your meta

I think that Sunblast Angel would be another excellent payoff card for the cards Loxodon Gatekeeper, Authority of the Consuls, and Blind Obedience that are already in your deck.

This deck seems cool, but why no Crawlspace, Farsight Mask, Aurification, Dread, Gisela, Blade of Goldnight, or Michiko Konda, Truth Seeker? Some of those seem like pillow fort essentials, and with only 9 pillow fort cards in the deck (2 of which are Marchesa's Decree and Norn's Annex, which are some of the least effective pillow fort cards in a format with a starting life total of 40), it seems like if you really want to capitalize on the theme of pillow fort, then you will need to find room to add some more.

Secondly, I like the use of Luminarch Ascension, Ophiomancer, and maybe Bitter Feud in this deck, and I will be trying to add them into my Marchesa deck: Queen Marchesa: The Game of Thrones. Thank you!

MagicalHacker, thanks so much for your feedback. I upvoted your deck. Really like it.

I think you may be underestimating marchesa's decree. It steals the monarch back giving card draw. 1 life per creature attacking doesn't seem like a lot but it sure adds up quick against token or tribal decks. I agree with you that Norn's Annex is kinda weak though. Probably doesn't do enough for 5 mana.

The reason the deck has less pillow fort than yours is because it is more focused on the politics than purely pillow fort. I agree I could add a bit more though. Out of your suggestions I like Dread and Gisella the best. They give me beaters to help win the game while also pillow forting. I will try to pick up a copy of each.

No problem, glad I could help! And yeah maybe it's more that I tend to see players with a handful of big creatures instead of lots of little ones in my meta.

I scoured MagicalHacker - List of All Pillow Fort Cards for my favorites, so maybe you might find some more you like there.

Take care!

Charlito, thanks for the suggestion. I had Blazing Archon in my original version of this deck. I found its 9 mana CMC is a bit too high though.

If you like Marchesa's Decree, you should check out Hissing Miasma. It does just about the same thing, and for cheaper. Delaying Shield is a pretty great pillow, and has interesting interaction with Monarch. Also, Vengeful Pharaoh is another great rattlesnake card. Check out my Queen Marchesa: Politics, Aikido, and Control for some similar ideas.

precociousapprentice: love your deck :) I've thrown Delaying Shield in here. Great at preventing infect and commander damage

January 29, 2017 4:18 a.m.

Exactly. I also have a little discussion of Delaying Shield in another Marchesa deck comment:

http://tappedout.net/mtg-decks/mh-queen-marchesa/#c2938491

I have also been retooling a lot of things, and need playtesting on the latest version. Any version in the history of the deck has been fun and effective, but I think I am getting closer to the Survivor reality TV ideal of a deck that survives, is not offensive to anyone, helps with taking down rivals, can backstab with the best of them when the ideal opportunity arrises, can survive a backstab, and can build a fire in the end when called to. I have high hopes with the latest changes, and will leave an update after some play. Check back in a bit.

Hey, why don't you have Master Warcraft in this list? Seems like everything you want in a card for this deck.
