Maybeboard

Ahoy you Landlubbers! These are the adventures of the legendary pirates Malcolm and Francisco. Haunted by greed, they are searching hideouts and vaults to find riches like gemstones, treasures and valuable artifacts. Each of them has a specifically powerful artifact on his mind. Malcolm, with his keen eyes, is trying to navigate his indomitable ship towards the lost artifact Time Sieve. He partnered up with the fowl marauder Francisco, who himself wants to get his feathered hands on a legendary artifact named Agatha's Soul Cauldron. Who will succeed first and achieve final victory? Aaaarghh, we will see.

With a full crew of flying pirates and the ship's cat on deck, this truly arghhsome deck brings it, wings it, swings it and wins it.

Thx to the snail for inspiration.

I love this deck, it's REALLY good, and very fast. Due to the low average cmc and Francisco's explore ability, the deck can run only 35 lands. I even cut all the 2-mana rocks, to me they appeared to be unnecessarily slow. You wanna play some pirates and your Commanders on turns 1, 2, 3 anyway. There are 10 pirate-creatures with CMC 1 and another 6 pirates with CMC 2 in the 98, and a few pieces of fast mana (Gemstone Cavern and Moxes). Playing a pirate on Turn 1 is pretty important I think. Remember, Francisco cannot attack and do the thing while he has still power 0. On turn 4 one aim could be to draw some cards due to one of the 6 Coastal Piracy effects, or start to assemble one of your combos already. Francisco's explore ability is also great in actively filtering for what you think you need, e.g. tutors or combo pieces.

If I counted correctly, 12 tutors are in this deck, including the 3 transmutes. The deck runs 12 counterspells, not counting Siren Stormtamer and Perplex, as well as some additional protection in the form of Misdirection, March of Swirling Mist and Teferi's Veil (I like that card anyway, and the art made it an autoinclude for me). The treasures made by Malcolm help very much in naturally keeping mana ready for your counterspells. Haunted One is pretty nice in this deck and can, like March of Swirling Mist or Cyclonic Rift, help you break through, if there are some annoying flyer blockers on the battlefield. Additionally, it can serve as a backup killing blow (if your combos don't land), as your pirates get +4/+0 whenever both commanders attack.

If your opponents do not keep you in check, by turn 5/6 this deck will win regularly. Earlier is also quite possible, if you have some nice draws.

Main combos:

Francisco + Soul Cauldron + Walking Ballista (You can play Ballista for 0 and it ends up in the graveyard), for infinite ping damage.

Malcolm + Time Sieve + Academy Manufactor or Bloodforged Battle-Axe (+a few pirates), for lots of consecutive turns.

The Soul Cauldron-Combo is the stronger one in my opinion, as it costs only 4 mana in total and you don't even need to do combat damage. Both combos synergize very well with the artifact tutors and transmute cards like Muddle the Mixture. Final Parting can single handedly grab the Cauldron-Combo, putting Walking Ballista directly in the graveyard. However, nothing is more fun than grabbing a Bloodforged Battle-Axe with a Fabricate, Reshape or Whir of Invention, just to see the surprised faces of your opponents - first when you show the card and then when you hit it like 13 times over their heads to end the game.

If needed, most of the expensive cards can easily be swapped for something else that's a little less powerful. The deck will still work fine.

Edit: I included a Maybeboard, with some cards I have available and a few cards I may proxy :D. Fyi: On Salubrious Snail's Youtube Channel, there is a budget version, that's relying solely on the Time Sieve-Combo.

And just for fun a gem:

Greetings from Germany, everybody
