Praise be the Lord of the Dead, feeder of the Fungi.

The idea of this deck was to be less than $35, and I always loved the spore counters many Fungi cards have, so once Myrkul was printed I knew what had to be done.

Myrkul, Lord of Bones let’s our Fungus friends stick around a little bit longer after they become dearly departed. They keep the ability to create more Saprolings, so I tried to make the most of that! I passed on some of the Saproling and Fungus tribal cards for more utility, and I also strayed from enchantress effects simply because I didn’t want to go with the generic good-stuff from an enchantment deck. We’re focused on Fungus. (I also skipped out on Devoted Druid just because I plan on playing this with my friends and I'm eh towards infinite mana.)

Sacrifice outlets such as Ghave, Guru of Spores, Fain, the Broker, Viscera Seer, Woe Strider, help bring out the Fanatical Devotion of our Fungus-loving folks to summon Myrkul and trigger his ability whenever needed. Fanatical also doubles as a way to spend those Saprolings to save some bodies when Myrkul hasn’t made his presence known yet to the battlefield.

Saproling spawners include Thallid and all of his Thallid cousins which give us a slow but steady approach, alongside Mycoloth and the superb Sprout Swarm which can overwhelm a board extremely quickly. There’s a few sources to proliferate as well, such as Grateful Apparition, and Park Heights Maverick, which help boost any +1/+1 counters and spore counters we have. Lae'zel, Vlaakith's Champion and Winding Constrictor will be doubling (or tripling if both are out) the spore counters we put on our mycelium men on our upkeep, and they work with proliferate!

And don’t think there’s anything shiitake about this ramp package either! We have Springbloom Druid instead of Harrow, simply because Myrkul can get the Druid to etb again for more value. Jaheira, Friend of the Forest gives our Saprolings and token enchantments some work to do besides sit around and look pretty all day, Nissa's Expedition which becomes a better Rampant Growth as long as we have three or more creatures out (very easy with 36 creatures in the deck), and Rampant is also in the deck of course, Krosan Verge to help pull two of the very few inexpensive dual lands, and Life and Limb. This may put us in truffle at times in the event of a boardwipe, but at least it’ll also decompose the other green players. Now if Myrkul is out during that time, our 1/1 Forests will come back as enchantments! Yay synergy! I’ll also consider Fallaji Wayfarer as ramp in a way, it helps the caps bring out Ghave and Myrkul so as to save our mana for a dump like Jade Mage.

Mush-roomoval is pretty standard, about what you’d find in a preconstructed deck. Rite of Oblivion, Beast Within, Putrefy, and oh boy Aura Mutation mmm-mmm! Just look at that art for it! How could I say no? Same with card draw, we got Harmonize, Thallid Soothsayer, Vampiric Rites, Nikara, Lair Scavenger and the like. Alright I'm capped out on mushroom puns, and yeah. Making a deck with this restriction was a ton of fun, and kind of reminded me of a certain MTG youtuber that used to do very budget friendly deck techs but then fell off... Oh well! I hope you all like this deck as much as I do!
