Liliana's Tiny Doses of Discarding

Tiny Leaders Budget Discard Mono-Black

snewgoblin

Sideboard

Maybeboard

Tiny leaders discard/control deck with a budget limitation (started at 50$ but increased over time due to rising prizes of certain cards and small upgrades over the years). This is a pretty straightforward deck based on Liliana, Defiant Necromancer   +2 discard ability. Please check the updates to see the evolution of this budget deck.

The ideal gameplan is to cast discard combo enchantments Megrim, Liliana's Caress, Shrieking Affliction or Quest for the Nihil Stone, flip Liliana, Heretical Healer   and keep on discarding. If you manage to force the opponent to topdecking, you can also save your cards by using Words of Waste everytime you should draw a card. Otherwise you can control the game with some removal spells and wait for the wincons Death Cloud or Damnable Pact and Dread Summons both of which could also mill out the player if a game takes too long. If you're lucky enough you should be even able to use the ultimate ability of Liliana, Defiant Necromancer   and reanimate all the discard effect creatures such as Liliana's Specter, Ravenous Rats, Black Cat or Thieving Sprite.

There are many possible improvements to the deck, some of them are listed in the maybeboard, however including cards such as The Rack, Nezumi Shortfang  , Waste Not or Maralen of the Mornsong would mean going over the 50$ budget limit. So far, we have set up this limit in our playgroup to make the Tiny Leaders format more accessible while we're learning how to play it.

Regarding Hollow Specter, while it is in some situations objectively worse than Hypnotic Specter (it is also a bit cheaper), I would argue that this deck would usually have some free mana to use the ability, get more information and discard the biggest threat.

Updates Add

Made some changes in the last months, added a rat subtheme with Pack Rat and Crypt Rats along with their little siblings Ravenous Rats and Rotting Rats. The most expensive of them all is Nezumi Shortfang  Flip aka the guy with a big bullseye on his back - instant speed discard is too good to be kept alive and this rat rogue usually doesn't survive long enough to flip to his shaman The Rack side. To keep Liliana's flavor strong, I have recently also added Oath of Liliana which serves both as an edict and an extra zombie body when flipping Liliana, Heretical Healer  Flip who should then have two zombie bodyguards to keep her alive and +2 for the ultimate. Another addition is Asylum Visitor which doubles as Phyrexian Arena and can be even played for its madness cost synergizing with the overall "everyone discards" theme.
