The Phyrexian Update —May 9, 2023
Welcome back, everyone, to my Liliana Tribal Deck!!! It's been a while since I updated this deck, and a few new cards and/or reprints got be excited to work on this once again! Of course, those new cards/reprints aren't the only things that changed here... no siree... So, without further ado, here are the changes, and below them are my quick explanations:
-
Removed Confront the Past (wait, what?), added Phyrexian Crusader
-
Removed Endless Atlas, added Staff of Compleation
-
Removed Ancient Tomb, added Phyrexian Tower
-
Removed Nyx Lotus, added Phyrexian Altar
-
Removed Grim Tutor, added Liliana's Talent (Flavor of the Month)
-
Removed Corpse Harvester, added Diregraf Colossus
-
Removed Zombie Master, added Plague Belcher (again?!)
-
Removed Relentless Dead, added Apprentice Necromancer
-
Removed Putrid Goblin, added Graveborn Muse
-
Updated Liliana, the Last Hope's art.
So, quickly, I thought I removed Confront the Past in a prior update, but I guess I put it back in for another chance. Turns out that I was right and that it should've been removed. It feels dead 90% of the time, unfortunately, so it's cut. Replacing it is Phyrexian Crusader, a card that I've wanted for a long time for the deck and never aquired. Someone I met at a local gamestore had one for trade thanks to the secret lair version, so I managed to get my hands on it.
Endless Atlas was a great card, but I felt that Staff of Compleation is so much better and more versatile. Card draw, mana, proliferate, and 'sacrifice' on a single artifact?! Count me in. To go along with the need for sacrifice, I added Phyrexian Tower and sold off my Ancient Tomb. Didn't really feel like I needed the extra colorless at the cost of two life. Likewise, I finally got my hands on a Phyrexian Altar for the deck as well, and gave up Nyx Lotus for it.
Finally, aside from the art change at the end, I switched out a number of zombies in the deck. I added Diregraf Colossus, Apprentice Necromancer, and Graveborn Muse to the deck, and re-added Plague Belcher, as it seemed to be another card that was taken out since my last update, for some unknown reason. Zombie Master's swampwalk felt irrelevant to the way I play/run my deck, Corpse Harvester seemed cool but was way too slow, and Putrid Goblin was literally only added as a combo with Mikaeus, so they got the boot from the deck. Relentless Dead, upon reflection, seemed to not do enough most of the time, so I am giving it a nice retirement.
I almost forgot. Something I've been doing recently is something I like to call "Flavor of the Month". It's when I find a cool new card I'd like to try out, but am unsure if it'll stick around in the deck. For Liliana Tribal, I wanted to give Liliana's Talent a try, so here it is, replacing Grim Tutor for the time being. It's great flavor for the deck, and offers a nice incentive to not haphazardly swing creatures are one of my planeswalkers.
And those are the updates for the deck! I hope you like the changes!
