Learn to Play Magic with G/W +1/+1 Counters!

Casual GW (Selesnya)

Philigan87

My tutorial decks are designed to teach new players how to play. Each deck is split into 3 steps.

Step 1 Start with a deck made up of only 10 creatures and 10 basic lands of one color. This step uses only creatures that have no abilities. The focus here is simply on how power and toughness work. This is to help the new player get used to combat, without any other distracting factors. The starting life total is 10, to make for quicker games.

Step 2 introduces 5 noncreature card types: sorcery, instant, global enchantment and enchantment aura. This phase adds 10 new cards into the mix, with at least a pair of cards representing each type. The starting life total is still 10. This helps the new player learn some basic card interactions and the different card types.

Step 3 completes the deck to 60 cards and raises the starting life total to the usual 20. This step introduces a second color, and cards that are designed to work with synergies. This should be the culmination of the new players learning combined with learning how new card interactions work.

This deck is paired with: this one. Use them against one another and teach a friend how to play!
