The idea for this deck came from Eliot from Spike Feeders. When I first saw deck I was really happy to see something a bit different from the usual Lazav lists. What I liked the most was seeing a pretty cool win condition with Laboratory Maniac and Lazav himself. After testing the deck, what came to mind was that with a bit higher average mana cost, Ad Nauseam was a bit under performing, and it needed a new win condition. With some brainstorming, this is the list I came up with.
This deck in it's core is a gimmick deck, with a package for control and tutoring essential combo pieces. Two main cards for this deck to work are deck:Basalt Monolith and Mesmeric Orb . With the amount of tutors, that should be somewhat easy. Once you have them in play, Lazav is the next in line to be there to combo of. There are two 2 ways to win. They are described in the Combos section.
So, our main win conditions comboing of with either Lab Man in play or with Lazav in play becoming one of creatures in the graveyard. First, and in a way more easier one to get online is milling yourself putting Ulamog, Carrion Feeder, Narcomoeba and Walking Balista into graveyard. Once Narcomoeba enters the battlefield you turn Lazav into Carrion Feeder and sacrifice Narcomoeba to put a counter on Lazav. Ulamog will shuffle everything back and you repeat this process until you have enough counters on Lazav to kill your team. You will kill them by turning Lazav into Balista and just ping everyone to death. Our second way to win the game is with Laboratory Maniac. Whole combo starts with milling the entire deck and having Lazav in play. Once the whole deck is in the graveyard, in response to shuffle trigger from Ulamog (or Kozilek if you want to run him) we turn Lazav into Laboratory Maniac and cast one of the instants from our grave, either Radical Idea or Think Twice . One possible way to win, in a slower and removal lighter game is to play Laboratory Maniac, protect him and in your upkeep play Demonic Consultation naming a card outside the deck to exile the whole library and with no cards to draw, win the game.
Since this is deck I have in paper, it lacks few cards that would improve its overall performance. Obvious choices are Force of Will , counters that you play for free are always great and there is none as good as FoW. Yawgmoth's Will another obvious upgrade. It will give you a additional chance to play cards from your grave and be a bit faster. Vampiric Tutor The missing tutor that works great and lets you manipulate the top of your library. Ancient Tomb best land to play for fast mana
