Kynaios & Tiro Group Hug Aikido

Commander / EDH RGWU

MULRAH

This friendly deck is designed to accelerate all decks so players can more readily enjoy their game, as long at it does not come at your expense. Pillow fort effects discourage attacking you, and some other cards encourage your opponents to attack each other. Payoffs for drawing cards and playing lands--which Kynaios and Tiro facilitate in abundance--can provide defense early and close out the game late. Finally, some "aikido" effects can further discourage attacks (if your opponents know about them) or win the game outright (if your opponents don't know about them).

I tried out the new version of this deck a few times.

  1. So many resources! It took me a while to get K&T out, due to a lack of blue mana, but that didn't seem to slow the deck down. By the end, I was tapping for 18 mana per turn and attack for 34 per turn, resulting in a T7 win.
  2. This game continued the theme of massive resources, but it was slowed by my failure to realize I did not need black mana to cast K&T. (I've been messing with 5C decks recently...) As a result, I was stalled unnecessarily for a while but finally got things going. The playtest ended on T12 with 13 lands in play and nearly as many cards in hand. The game has a lot of activated abilities I missed due to the overflow of resources; maybe I could have shaved a turn off had I been paying more careful attention.
  3. This final game was right between the last two. Since I wasn't waiting for black mana (!?!?), K&T came out on time, driving a surge in card draw and land deployment. Cultivator Colossus was the main win condition, but Toothy helped. I might not want Maelstrom Wanderer in here, as it reveals a lot about the deck, including its "aikido" stunts...
