PRIMER

Hello! Thank you for taking the time to come and read my primer, and I hope it does not disappoint. This has been a pet deck I have been building lately. In this primer I will go over the deck I've built, other suggestions of cards you could add, and the general idea of the deck (which is self explanatory really) ANY suggestions you have for budget options to replace expensive cards, taking cards out, adding cards, or going in a different direction/theme is highly encouraged! I am hoping to generate some nice conversation around this. So lets get started!!

Dragon's Approach

Objective

You will want to cast Dragon's Approach of course, possibly into Niv-Mizzet, Parun but Knollspine Dragon is also available, depending if you have or want cards. If you have some, Niv, otherwise Knollspine. The commander of this deck helps fuel playing more Dragon's Approach! To smooth things we use spell cost reducers and draw on cast triggers. We can also Lifelink our spells to gain 3 life per opponents a pop.

Combo

Reiterate or Soulfire Grand Master + Mana Geyser is infinite mana, then just add a Dragon's Approach (or another sorcery or instant) and you just did infinite damage.

Unique Spices

• Locket of Yesterdays : Dragon's Approach enables this card to be played in commander. You NEVER get to play otherwise. So I am excited it works here!

• Pyromancer Ascension : Same situation! No other deck can really play this card!

• Archmage Emeritus
• Jeskai Ascendancy
• Whirlwind of Thought

Cost Reducers

• Kykar, Wind's Fury : Produces spirits to sac for mana. Dragon's Approach will hopefully be reduce cost from other cards in this section!
• Storm-Kiln Artist : Generates treasures every time you cast a Dragon's Approach
• Locket of Yesterdays
• Ruby Medallion : Reduce cost of Dragon's Approach
• Cloud Key : Same as before!

Other Cast Triggers

Bonus Round

• Metallurgic Summonings
• Shark Typhoon : Create more pressure with every Dragon's Approach
• Pyromancer Ascension

Recurrence

• Past in Flames
• Soulfire Grand Master : I love this interaction! Gaining 9 life per Dragon's Approach is super awesome, but the activated ability is the main reason this is here!
• Mizzix's Mastery
• Pyromancer's Goggles

Lifelinkers

• Soulfire Grand Master
• Firesong and Sunspeaker : More lifelink for Dragon's Approach
• Radiant Scrollwielder : Same as before!

OTHER OPTIONS

So, I am never good at choosing budget options for cards. Suggestions would be nice to replace some of these cards for more budget flavor. Any suggestions of cards to add or take out are also appreciated, especially since I would like to figure out a way to make it less salt inducing in my play group lol.

Of cards that have recently come out, I would think Flame Channeler   or Rem Karolus, Stalwart Slayer, from Midnight Hunt, would be good options.

OTHER TRIGGER ON CAST CARDS

There are cards you could add that trigger when you play instant and sorceries as well. Of ones that I think would be the best are:

• Guttersnipe : Deal 2 extra damage per Dragon's Approach!

• Deekah, Fractal Theorist

• Docent of Perfection  

• Electrostatic Field

• Gelectrode

• Melek, Izzet Paragon

• Velomachus Lorehold

• Birgi, God of Storytelling   : This is here for the Horn on the backside. Card advantage off the top of your library!

• Syr Carah, the Bold : Same as before! Card advantage and damage!
