I am still wrapping my head around this deck but would a card like Thrive be any good here?

soggyfatman I think it would cost too much mana, I've considered adding +1+1 counter cards but if I have enough creatures for the combo then it can pretty much work the instant that Experiment Kraj can tap, so I replaced +1+1 counter cards with creatures that work with the combo

Makes sense. Your combo is to tap and untap Experiment Kraj so there is no need for Thrive. Looks pretty fun! I had no idea Experiment Kraj existed until today.

Thanks! I didn't either until I found the card on the gatherer, and it looked like such a weird card that I had to try to make a deck around it

My group is not a big fan of infinite combos. However I am going to try and find a way to have Experiment Kraj adapt to the board state and do its best to evolve. Perhaps I'll sprinkle in 1 or 2 infinite combos I just "happen to realize" in a game.

Missing the most important untap ability of all, Minamo, School at Water's Edge

I originally had it in the deck but it's above my budget range...

:(

Just print it out on computer paper and proxy it for now -- it opens up so much more versatility, and so many more combos for Kraj that it screams for inclusion

You know what, sure why not I'll add it, either way the deck is pretty budget. My main thing is that usually I don't need that much untap until I am able to go infinite, and this requires me to use up 2 blue mana sources to untap the Kraj (blue is the main colour used for untapping). Nevertheless, it enters untapped so other than the price there's no real reason for me to not put it in

Aggroman67 I had it in initially but I realized that the investment needed to put counters on the creatures is far too much, plus I need a lot of coloured mana in this deck for things like casting the Kraj and using his abilities

Plaxcaster Frogling is handy. I was wondering why no Vorel of the Hull Clade? I know he is hard to stick but in a simic edh I feel like he fits well.

Plaxcaster Frogling I'll definitely consider, I chose not to put Vorel of the Hull Clade in because doubling counters in this deck isn't too useful as my goal is to be able to do an infinite combo (which is almost always possible by the time the Kraj is out)

I replaced Cauldron of Souls for Ethereal Usher. I think it's a good decision as I have never used the Cauldron and the usher lets me choose from evasion, mana ramp and card draw (I'll probably have one of the three by the time I have mana to cast it, so it lets me get one of the other two whenever I need to), also I hope everybody agrees with my budgetizing update, I just figured that 3 cards shouldn't be worth paying $25 extra to have in the deck

I want to put it in but I have a heavy reliance on coloured mana and I think the mana cost is too high to make it worth it

Rings of Brighthearth + Basalt Monolith + Sword of the Paruns (or Umbral Mantle) = infinite mana, tap and untapping and +1/+1 counters.

poorpinkus says... #18

I don't know if that is a reliable enough combo though... I'll consider Sword of the Paruns but it's a high mana cost but it does provide a way to untap for colourless mana

What about Gilder Bairn and Gyre Sage for an infinite Kraj Combo? They aren't that expensive and once you get a few counters on Kraj he can tap himself to produce the mana needed to untap using the Bairn's ability.

They're both actually in my deck lol, but good suggestions they're good cards

bro, just go Triskelion + Phyrexian Devourer and you are all set

March 24, 2015 6:14 p.m.

poorpinkus says... #22

Man, Phyrexian Devourer is weird but interesting... And the other one looks like a pretty strong win con. I'm not sure about what I'd do for either of them though since they are 6 mana, any idea of what I should swap out?

Simic Manipulator and Ethereal Usher (though that transmute is nice)

Enclave Cryptologist - bad. Don't. Level up. bad. Kraj is the mana sink, you needn't add something that is only valuable after jumping through hoops and defending it (while simultaneously dumpling mana on it)

March 24, 2015 9:43 p.m.

SomeDipshit says... #24

yeah the +x/+x is errata'd to X +1/+1 if I remember correctly -- making the combo work

March 24, 2015 9:44 p.m.

poorpinkus says... #25

The reason why I have Enclave Cryptologist is because card draw is really valuable in this deck and there aren't that many creatures that can straight up draw cards by tapping, card advantage is key with this deck.

Simic Manipulator could probably go, the reason why I have Ethereal Usher is because on its own it can provide a way to win (unblockable), and if I'm missing a key part of the combo (card draw or ramp) I can swap it out for one of the other 6-drops

I'm probably not going to put in Phyrexian Devourer since I could potentially kill the Kraj with it, and if I weren't using it for that it would not be as useful, Triskelion is good for any infinite combo, but the mana cost is still getting to me... If I was swapping it for Enclave Cryptologist for infinite combos, I'd rather be able to draw my entire deck than deal damage (since I could look for counterspells and the like), and if I were swapping it for Simic Manipulator I'd rather be able to take control of all of their creatures for 3 less mana. It is however good for before I am able to do an infinite combo, but again Enclave Cryptologist allows me to draw 2 cards per turn with the Kraj (and potentially more if I have untap abilities) for a one-time investment, and Simic Manipulator is still pretty strong in this kind of deck

Anyways, I'll still consider them but I might want some examples of how they can be better. I've playtested the deck vigorously and I've found the cards that you are suggesting I remove to be invaluable in the majority of games that I draw them
