War of the Spark + MH1 Update —April 28, 2019
I've made a bunch of changes to this list:
- Added God-Eternal Oketra to the deck. A great token producer and in many ways a better Rampaging Baloths in this deck. Removed Wrath of God.
- I've added more 1-cmc mana dorks to the deck. These are just great to get you into the game at the start, and are a one mana rampant growth with Karametra later. To make room I decided to reduce the emphasis on ETB creatures and took out cards like Wood Elves and Temur Sabertooth. I hope this results in more frequent turn 3/4 karametra plays.
- I've added Finale of Devastation. I like the versatility of this tutor because it can ramp us early game with Dryad Arbor, get any creature we want in the mid game (including Whitemane Lion which Green Sun's Zenith couldn't do), and be a finisher late game (sneaky good with Champion of Lambholt in that scenario).
- Going to test Phyrexian Altar, as it gives us alternative routes to get infinite creature casts besides Aluren (for example, with Oketra's Monument). It can also help sac Academy Rector and Protean Hulk or just get us more mana from our tokens.
- Going to give Luminarch Ascension another try here as well.
- Force of Vigor is also going into this deck. Bunch of green card and explosive draw makes this a great fit.
Cheers,
Beebles
Hey Goretast, thanks for taking the time to give me some suggestions.
- Miren, the moaning well seems like a usefull include. I will probably add that.
- I considered Mistveil Plains, but I could not picture the scenario where it’s ability would be worthwhile. Could you explain when you would use it? I currently just see a plains that enters the battlefield tapped with an ability that has an edge usecase.
- True conviction is a nice contender indeed (already run it in another deck). I will consider running that here as well.
I’ll have a look at your list soon. Again, thanks for the tips!

I use Mistveil Plains mainly to recycle minions for Protean Hulk, Green Sun's Zenith, Chord of Calling, and Tooth and Nail. I like having the ability to use my creatures without relying on needing a Regrowth or Karmic Guide to bring it back for a future combo. It is an easy grab with a karametra trigger. Of course it sucks to draw and come in tapped, but it adds more utility to karametra and I end up pulling it almost every game once I get my duel lands out.
I was also thinking and Seedborn Muse might be a fun addition. You could use the untaps to Whitemane Lion on each of your opponents turn or mana dump for Ant Queen, Shalai, Voice of Plenty, Gavony Township, etc. You also already have a Winding Canyons to flash in creatures aswell.

Thanks for the clarification. Makes sense. Also, Seedborn does indeed seem useful with all the mana sinks. Will consider that as well.

Hey, what were your thoughts on the new Rhonas? I was planning on making a deck similar to this, but wanted to include Rhonas as well.

Hey Abort_Me_Senpai,
My thoughts on Rhonas are that he seems pretty good in a deck with a lot of beefy creatures. I’m running mostly small creatures and a bunch of my token makers produce 1/1s, so if you are going a similar route, Rhonas doesn’t look like the best fit to me. Also, I don’t like it that Rhonas does not grant some sort of evasion, like trample. In my eyes Craterhoof would be a better candidate if I wanted another buff effect to close out the game.

Miren, the Moaning Well would be a great land addition to sac your Academy Rector and get you closer to Aetherflux Reservoir. It has saved me many times in burn match ups with my Karametra deck. Mistveil Plains is also a great plains that can be brought out by Karametra. I also like running True Conviction to be more aggressive with my Academy Rector pulls. You should check out my deck to see if there are any cards that fit your strategy- our decks are somewhat similar. Let me know what you think!
