Dovescape could be much fun in here.

Dovescape is a bad card in this deck for a number of reasons. This deck relies primarially on its non feature spells, so you would be neutering it’s effecticeness. Further, Kangee gives all birds a boost, so your opponents’ birds would benefit as well.

I'm honestly not seeing the use of Jace, the Mind Sculptor in here. Maybe it's just my unfamiliarity with Stax and the cEDH strategies in general. I'm not really familiar with Stax, so maybe Flusterstorm as another counterspell? IDK what to suggest, the deck looks really good and tuned to me!

Darkshadow327 - thank you for the advice. I have been using JTMS for the repeatable Brainstorm , which is nice, but a tad underwhelming. I think I'll playtest around with some substitutions.

Might I suggest my boi: Gwafa Hazid, Profiteer ? Also where are Ghostly Prison and Propaganda ? These all serve to ward off attacks. That can be very useful or kinda useful, depending on your meta.

ZendikariWol - I did a little playtesting with Ghostly Prison and Propaganda and found them lackluster. They did nothing to immediately hinder my opponents' ability to develop a boardstate or advance my own victory. I have decks where I run them, but those are a bit more casual than this one, so these cards perform a bit better against that level of meta.

Gwafa Hazid, Profiteer just is not fast enough, too little impact, and provides too much card advantage to be all that effective here.

Clock of Omens to tap your orbs to untap your perms?

Heya cdkime, here might be some cards you can consider:

You are right there aren't much good bird cards unfortunately :/

hkhssweiss and IAmTheWraith - sorry for the delay in responding, I was extremely busy with work so did not have the time I generally like to put into responding to deck suggestions.

IAmTheWraith - I like that suggestion and will be playtesting around with it more. My one concern is Clock of Omens does not play entirely nicely with Static Orb , but I will need more playtesting to determine how big of an issue that is.

hkhssweiss - I added Jhoira's Familiar and artificer's assistant (though I cut Artificer's Assistant to make room for playtesting Clock of Omens ). I had both Aven Mimeomancer and Teshar, Ancestor's Apostle in here originally, but found they under-performed.

Aven Mimeomancer was fun and on-theme, but there were not enough creatures to really capitalize on this benefit, and the additional +1/+1 to each bird on the upkeep if used alongside the commander was disapointing.

I found Teshar, Ancestor's Apostle came down a bit too late to make much of a difference. There were other cards I wanted to play with my four mana, and by the time I wanted to cast Teshar, Ancestor's Apostle , my hand was devoid of historic spells, so it was only when I topdecked an artifact that the ability became relevant.

Thanks both of you for the suggestions!

Actually, Clock of Omens works with both orbs

End step: Use Clock of Omens ability, tapping orb+clock and untapping clock

Untap: Untap all permanents.

It's a one sided lock that can get you many many turns ahead without even doing anything special. Recommended for any orb deck imo ;)

IAmTheWraith - I did not think of it that way. Sounds fun.

Yep it is. It's something that every stax deck should be able to do in my opinion. Breaking Parody on orbs is a form of card advantage and ramp, because now you're the only one able to play magic the way it was meant to be played ;)

I wish my decks could run 2 copies of Pact of Negation ;)

Maybe run a Force of Negation ?

Maybe Thrummingbird because it's a bird and synergies with your commander?

Authority of the Consuls ? May not be relevant enough for cEDH, however.

Icbrgr and Chhris - thank you both for your comments!

Icbrgr - I ran Thrummingbird in early play tests of this deck, and ultimately decided it did too little. Generally, this deck is not trying to be aggressive, and Kangee is only cast if it can knock an opponent out of the game or win on the spot. Even if the game is not won instantly, you’re still generally not switching over to aggro without already having strong ramp, to the point an additional counter per turn does not generally sway the tide of battle.

That’s not to say Thrummingbird could never help - in fact, in testing I have run across an instant where it would have turned defeat into victory. However, that perfect storm of being close, but not close enough, after Kangee has been around to attack, did not justify the inclusion of a card that otherwise has no synergies.

Chhris - I like Authority of the Consuls as a card, but agree with your analysis. It’s particularly unhelpful against the decks I generally see, which tend to favour combo and be light on creatures.

Thanks again for giving this a look!

Minor things that I'm suggesting really, the deck overall seems well built.

Manifold Key can serve as a Voltaic Key and also allow Kangee, Aerie Keeper and other creatures to get through easier if you need to switch slightly more to the offensive, and at the same cost it seems like an upgrade.

Given you have few creatures, perhaps a Time Wipe here instead of Wrath of God it is slightly more expensive and color intensive but does allow you to save a creature and potentially reuse their ETB effect.

There's also Talisman of Progress as an alternative to Azorius Signet which could allow you to play something the turn it comes in, given if you have one color the fixing isn't as much of an issue, alternatively there's Fellwar Stone or the new Arcane Signet at the same CMC.

Izzy- - thank you for the comment. You're right that Manifold Key is a strict upgrade - I must have missed that one when viewing the C2020 spoilers. Thanks for pointing that out!

With regards to Time Wipe , I think the mana cost is prohibitively expensive. Five mana, three of which must be coloured, is a whole lot harder to muster than Wrath of God 's four, and that can make all the difference in the world. Given that the creatures are a secondary focus to this deck, I think the added utility of saving one is far eclipsed by the risk of having the wrath come down a turn too late.

Talisman of Progress is already on the list. I was planning on replacing Azorius Signet with Arcane Signet once the latter has been released, since it's strictly better, but I suppose there is no harm in updating the list now.

Cheers!

I'd drop Wrath of God for Winds of Abandon , whether you need to cast it early on a threat, or later as a one-sided sweeper, I think it is a bit better, even if your opponents get lands. Huge synergy with Aven Mindcensor , as they only get to look at the top 4 when they decide what X basic lands they get, so if you exile 20 creatures, they don't shuffle between the looks, only at the end.

Don't you think it's unrealistic for anyone to spend the money for a Timetwister and then play it in a Kangee Commander deck xD?
