Kaho Reweave (Tidespout Version)

Commander / EDH* Mono-Blue

sonnyfelixo

A Kaho, Minamo Historian deck that wins through casting Kaho as soon as possible, and exiling Dramatic Reversal (to make mana and untap Kaho) and Reweave , fetching Tidespout Tyrant . As this is essentially a 1 card infinite mana engine, we can fill the rest of the deck with outlets, fast mana and protection.

The Combo

Comboing is fairly straightforward.

To preface, we need a couple of pieces, making this not a true commander-only combo. Yet, the pieces are so easy to come by that getting them very early is pretty easy.

We need:

  1. Mana rocks that can be bounced with Tidespout Tyrant , and are mana positive as a pair, or a mana rock that is mana positive, and a rock that is also an outlet (such as Arcum's Astrolabe , Prophetic Prism or Codex Shredder .
  2. An outlet card in hand (in the case we don't have an outlet rock). There's a total of 19 outlets in the deck, most of which are synergistic with the deck, and some of which I'll discuss later on.
  3. The ability to produce 6 mana after a Dramatic Reversal -untap. This usually will be 2 lands + 3 mana out of rocks.

If we achieve these board and hand states, we can safely combo:

  1. Cast Kaho, Minamo Historian . If we have a way to give her haste, we can combo immediately. If not, we wait a turn. This is usually done turn two.
  2. We exile Dramatic Reversal and Reweave . In the case we have a way to give Kaho haste ( Swiftfoot Boots , Thousand-Year Elixir ) or have a way to untap her ( Thousand-Year Elixir , Minamo, School at Water's Edge ), we can exile Intuition , which will function as an outlet by tutoring.
  3. We activate Kaho for , casting Dramatic Reversal , untapping our rocks and generating additional mana, and untapping Kaho.
  4. We activate Kaho for , casting Reweave , targeting Kaho, and fetching the only creature in the deck: Tidespout Tyrant
  5. Now we can bounce rocks to generate infinite mana, and fuel an outlet, usually drawing our deck or milling out our opponents.

Wining mana rock pairs

Here I will list some common mana rock pairs that will generate infinite mana, or will draw our deck.

  1. Mana Crypt / Mana Vault + 2-mana rock/artifact that draws/any artifact of 1 mana or lower.
  2. Mox Opal + any 0-mana rock/ Codex Shredder / Arcum's Astrolabe
  3. Grim Monolith + any 0-mana rock/ Codex Shredder / Voltaic Key / Manifold Key / Arcum's Astrolabe
  4. Basalt Monolith + Voltaic Key / Manifold Key /a mana positive rock/ Arcum's Astrolabe .
  5. Sol Ring + any 1-mana rock, or lower, that produces mana/ Voltaic Key / Manifold Key / Codex Shredder / Arcum's Astrolabe

NOTE: Arcum's Astrolabe is a snow artifact, so it can pay for it's own casting cost. So any rock that produces more than it costs draws us our deck.

Outlets

I'll discuss some of the outlets here.

  • Artifact Tutors:

Pretty self-explanatory. They can fetch Codex Shredder or an artifact that draws on ETB.

They can win us the game by untapping Kaho before we cast Reweave . This means we can cast Intuition first, tutoring a wincon. This is more mana-intensive as we have to do this before generating infinite mana.

With one of these, we can bounce and recast Kaho after generating infinite mana, exiling Intuition .

  • The draw-artifacts:

Arcum's Astrolabe and Prophetic Prism can both draw our deck when bouncing. These fill double-duty as we don't necessarily need to net mana when bouncing.

  • The infinite mana sinks:

Also pretty self-explanatory, they draw us our deck.

  • The planeswalkers:

Tezzeret the Seeker can fetch a wincon-artifact, and Narset, Parter of Veils draw us our deck by continually bouncing her.

Alternative Wincons

We have two additional ways to generate infinite mana: Isochron Scepter + Dramatic Reversal and Basalt Monolith + Rings of Brighthearth .

Playstyle

As we actually have pretty tight combo-package (most rocks and outlets are synergistic cards we'd play anyway), we have a lot of room for interactive cards and stax pieces.

Because of this, the deck can switch pretty easily between explosive gameplans (with turn 3 wins being pretty common) and longer plans involving stax and interaction.

I'm currently planning to test cards like Winter Orb and Static Orb : while we don't break parity on them, we can easily play Kaho and and Orb, and need just to activate Kaho start the combo.
