Red is the colour of short-term mana acceleration, right? Tell that to this criminally overlooked common that provides a handy sacrifice outlet and the potential to generate huge swathes of mana. Recycling any creature to get its mana cost out of it again can essentially double your resources for a turn, but you need not always get out of a creature's mana cost what you put into it. Dross Golem always cashes in for five big ones even if you played him for free, and Shriekmaw can be evoked then sacrificed to net you three free mana while blowing up a creature. Turn Two: Soldevi Adnate

Turn Three: Face-down Liege of the Pit

Turn Four: Flip up the Liege, attack for 7 in the air, then sacrifice him to the Adnate for a whopping eight mana. Funnel that into an Archon of Cruelty or Griselbrand and that's basically the game right there!
