"Jötunheimr" [ Nephilim Tribal ]

Commander / EDH

LibrarianOz

How does one go about building a deck that not only uses all five Nephilim, but focuses on each of their strengths well enough to be viable? Well, the first step is, obviously, a 750ml bottle of 70 proof 35% alcohol content whiskey. The second step is a lot of crying.

Now this deck seemingly appears to be an in-congruent pile of decent cards and weird jank, but in reality, this is probably the most complicated deck I've ever designed. Each Nephilim has a set of support cards that not only supports that particular Nephilim, but also allows you to play into the strengths of another. The strategy itself is modular.

I know how that sounds. It sounds like I'm just making an excuse to play with a bunch of cards I like and just pretending I have a strategy. And due to crippling imposter syndrome, I would probably believe you, if I had never piloted this deck I've made, if I didn't know the power, the synergy, the ability to change my strategy on the fly in ways that are nearly impossible for your opponent to account for.

Let me give you an example. There's no way I have the attention span to explain every strategy in the deck, so this should suffice. Say I have a Yore-Tiller Nephilim and a Sling-Gang Lieutenant out. Each turn, I can sacrifice all of the goblins Sling-Gang makes, including itself, making the opponent lose three life and I gain three life. Then, with Yore-Tiller's attack trigger, I can bring it back tapped and attacking. I can do the same thing to make the opponent lose six and I gain six total. (or I can keep the two goblin tokens out as blockers, take your pick.)

Let's say I draw a Rhys the Redeemed. This card is designed for the Dune-Brood Nephilim strategy, doubling the tokens Dune-Brood makes. However, I can also use it to aid part of Yore-Tiller's strategy by doubling my goblin tokens, allowing me to drain at least five every turn.

This example not the most insane strategy in the deck. Just a simple example to show how versatile this deck can be, and how I stitch five Nephilim's abilities together into something solid.

Here is a list of all of the strategies in the deck: <> Graveyard Recursion <> Self-Discard <> Tokens <> Recasting Instants and Sorceries <> +1/+1 Counters <> Voltron (And Tron) <> Creature Stealing <> Multiple Combats <> Probably more I can't think of at the moment.

If you decide to build this yourself... godspeed, I can't imagine this deck is easy to figure out.
