****IMPORTANT****

This deck is made specifically for a format at my local card shop where it's the same as regular EDH but every card over $2 (according to the lowest TCGPlayer median price) is banned. Rules & price tracker can be found at 2dollarmagic.com.

If you're not interested in playing in this format, use this deck as a skeleton to find some really good, fun, and cheap cards to throw into your deck and improve it with more expensive cards that do a better job.

Some non-budget options that would be great for these deck are Beacon of Creation, Vernal Bloom, Ezuri's Predation, Powder Keg, Mobilize, Nissa, Who Shakes the World, Beastmaster Ascension, Avenger of Zendikar, and Triumph of the Hordes.

****IMPORTANT****

This deck stemmed from the idea of wanting to make a deck that was gimmicky with a commander that was underused but could still win games. I went through all of the commanders that were under $2 and found the gem that is Jolrael, Empress of Beasts.

This deck is a token deck through-and-through. The whole focus of this deck is to create a massive board state of little tokens or animated lands. Swinging in with lands is the primary goal of the deck so we need ways to animate them. Jolrael, Empress of Beasts, Sylvan Awakening, Rude Awakening, and Natural Affinity can make your lands into deadly attackers. In order to get to this goal we need to ramp like mad to get as many lands on the field as possible. Every half-decent ramp spell under $2 is thrown in this deck as well as a higher-than-average land count currently landing at 38 forests and a Blighted Woodland.

While the main goal of this deck is to swing at your opponents with a massive board of lands, this deck comes with other ways to make tokens as well. Cards like Ant Queen, Rampaging Baloths, Waiting in the Weeds, and Howl of the Night Pack will help put some bodies out on the board. This helps supplement our main gameplan and makes our buff cards even more effective.

Speaking of buff cards, this deck includes Overrun, Overwhelming Stampede, Primal Bellow, Siege Behemoth, Earth Surge, and Sylvan Advocate to push that extra bit of damage. Most notably, Primal Bellow and Overwhelming Stampede go very well together.

This deck can also have incredibly explosive turns with massive card draw cards such as Shamanic Revelation and Collective Unconscious after turning your lands into creatures and massive "ritual" effects like Early Harvest, Vitalize, Llanowar Druid, and Rude Awakening giving you massive amounts of mana. In that way, this deck can switch into combo/storm mode where you just chain card draw and rituals until you get enough gas to wipe out the table.

Take everything I said above and add in some more removal & card draw and you've got yourself the deck! This deck is far from being competitive but I can tell you it's fantastic for the occasional wacky fun game (especially if you're fed up with mana screw).

Updates Add

Nearly 3 years since I've posted an update! Did not think it was nearly this long. Well in those 3 years I've decided to keep this deck as my only 2DH deck. I still love the other decks and kept them assembled & budget friendly; but I don't keep track of card prices on them anymore. Too many of them lost their original identity due to price spikes so I just converted them into regular EDH decks to keep them fun. Enough about the other decks, let's get into the changes for this one!

Since it's been 3 years since the last update I won't be able to keep track of everything that's been added or removed so I'll just go over some of the main additions.

Additions: Llanowar Druid, Thelonite Druid, Sylvan Awakening, Abundance, The Great Aurora, and Regrowth.

Llanowar Druid - HOW DID I MISS THIS CARD WHEN MAKING THIS DECK?! This card is exactly what we want in this deck. Lets us double our mana for a turn or can let us untap our lands for more damage after tapping them to buff themselves up with cards like Overrun. This deck wants as many Vitalize type effects as it can get.

Thelonite Druid & Sylvan Awakening - Thelonite Druid falls in the camp of "how did I miss this card" too. It is basically a mini version of our commander. It only makes lands into 2/3s and can't be used to target opponents but the activation cost is much easier to achieve and redundancy is always a great thing to have. Speaking of redundancy, Sylvan Awakening is another great way to animate our lands with the (VERY useful) added bonus of indestructible.

Abundance - Not much to say about this card that hasn't already been said. Lets you draw lands when you need them or gas when you're tired of lands. Can be devastating when paired up with any of your card draw spells like Shamanic Revelation, Collective Unconscious, Tower of Fortunes or even Harmonize.

The Great Aurora might seem like a "chaos" card but is actually fantastic for this deck. One really important thing about this card is that it counts and shuffles in all permanents (including lands). Because this card is a ramp & token deck, we will have a large amount of creatures and lands for this card's activation. Something else that's very important is that you get to play any lands that you draw UNTAPPED. So this card gives you a massive amount of card draw plus a load of untapped mana to use to combo with your newly found grip of cards. Easy to win the game off of this card the turn after you play it (lands will have summoning sickness).

Regrowth - An in-budget version of Eternal Witness. Since this deck doesn't have a way of bouncing creatures or bringing them back from the graveyard; this card is just as good as Eternal Witness in this deck and can really put in some work.
