Kykar Storm

Deck Building process:

My initial Goal was to have a deck that is versatile and fun to play, while also beeing fun to play against. Kykar offers himself to many different playstyles that I tried to include here. Red Cantrips are simply amazing together with Kykar as it allows you to rapidly Cycle through your deck while pushing the Storm counter as high as possible, but I tried to include ones that also provide additional Value while beeing cast.

The biggest decision to make with Kykar in play is often if you sacrifice your Spirits to dig deeper or to keep them, this changes depending on board state and your hand obviously. But the overall Goal was to make both viable, with cards like Shared Animosity, Shared Discovery, Distant Melody and Jeskai Ascendancy providing huge benefits the more Creatures you have in play. To a lesser degree this also includes Purphoros, God of the Forge where the activated ability won me a surprising amount of Games before.

Powerscale:

Kykar is a Commander that is playable in every Commander format from extremly casual/budget to high end CEDH decks. At least in my Opinion!

This particular Decklist is supposed to be a 8/10 on the powerscale, it is certainly able to win turn 4/5 if completely unopposed.

Main win conditions:

While going wide is supported the Main way to Win with this deck is by storming off and reducing every ones life totals but yours to 0 in a flurry of Spells. Since every spell you cast creates a Creature Purphoros, God of the Forge and Impact Tremors allows you to drain every opponent for life, this can lead to really fast and sudden wins with minimal Board setup. For additional consistency Saheeli, Sublime Artificer and Monastery Mentor provide additional token creators. Anointed Procession leads to even more explosive turns. Mind's Desire with a high enough Storm counter allows you to pretty much play your whole library and is a big payoff for all the free Cantrips we cast. Aetherflux Reservoir uses them more directly.

What could be changed:

-Fast Mana and premium Counterspells: This will probably push the deck to an easy 9/10

-Rhystic Study: I don't think this deck really needs it since it can fall kinda flat if your opponents are the kind of people that pay for the tax every time. And if that happens you are better of including a cantrip that you can cast for free. But still it is Rhystic Study and that is never bad.

-Removing Shared Animosity, Shared Discovery and Distant Melody: While especially Shared Animosity has won me some games, I can't deny that these cards feel sometimes subpar when you do not have a huge Token army in play to abuse these effects. If you want to focus more on the Storm theme you can probably run other Cantrips over these. Sentinel Tower is another Storm payoff that I am tempted to include.

-Remove Thousand-Year Storm: This is my favourite Magic card and it simply feels amazing to turn your free Cantrips into draw 5 or more. But it is also a very expensive card that does not impact the board or helps you win directly. I am also tempted to include a Grapeshot or Lightning Bolt to finish opponents more directly with Thousand-Year Storm.

Changes so far:

-Rile +Mystic Retrieval --> The 1 damage Rile has you deal can be a surprising drawback sometimes and sometimes it is better to return a card directly to your hand instead of casting it from your graveyard. For example a discarded Dramatic Reversal

-Jeskai Ascendency +Mana Crypt -->Got a Mana Crypt in A Mystery Booster, incredible Synergy with Kykar and a Storm deck itself. If you can afford it get one in there.

-Elsha +Return to dust -->It took exactly one Game against a friends Oloro stax deck (With Humility) for me to realize that somehow I was missing Enchantment and Artifact removal.

Please share you thoughts and ideas for the deck, if you liked it you can also Upvote it so more people can experience the pure power and awesomeness Kykar, Wind's Fury brings.
