HOW TO BECOME A MONARCH BY DIVINE RIGHT FOR DUMMIES

BY JARED CARTHALION

STEP 1: Find a king

STEP 2: Kill the king, become the king

STEP 3: Build a castle so impenetrable that your rule lasts forever

Hello and welcome to Castle Carthalion! Our gameplan is pretty straight-forward. Firstly our Commander Jared Carthalion, True Heir gives Monarch to an opponent upon ETB, and stipulates that you cannot become Monarch that turn. The real big brain play would be to flash him out via Scout's Warning on the endstep before our turn, but its better just to reliably get him out turn 3 and pass Monarch around so you can justify with a straight face and still sleep well at night calling this a "Fun, flavorful vultron deck that wont be a problem I swear guys," before you inevitably lock down the game, but I digress...

After Jared hits the field, there's multiple options for obtaining the Crown (token) you so overwhelmingly deserve. Be it other turn 1-2 creatures you can potentially swing with or the myriad of cards that simply give you Monarch upon ETB. And with that in place you can begin to fortify your holdings. Entangler gets around any one foolish enough to attempt to go wide, and Gideon's Sacrifice or better yet Pariah allow Jared to soak up any damage that might be dealt to you and turn it into +1/+1 counters, creating a lock that only removal can break. A few other cards such as Giver of Runes, Dawnglade Regent, Archon of Coronation, and Sterling Grove help to create even more layers of protection to keep the crown.

From here, we secure the win with equipment and the lovely card Guilty Conscience. As long as Jared has Monarch this effectively will double his power every turn, and do even more if he has doublestrike. Add a Mage Slayer on top of all of this and you can go from swinging a 3 to a 6 to a 12 in one combat.
