Introduction

Aiming to build the best mill deck possible for Standard (with no budget restrictions) that is also fun!

I want this to be a mill deck that is not a one trick pony and plan to take advantage of the treasure producing spells along with tanky creatures. All creatures are high in defense and I do not intend to attack with this deck, purely defend myself and mill to win!This deck is intended to be a generic mill deck, therefore I do not want to rely on the big combo to win. I strongly recommend checking out Sanity Swallower by Soulus101 to see a great mill combo deck

The ultimate win condition is to get out a Fleet Swallower as early as possible combine that with a Fraying Sanity = win. Fleet Swallower = place over half of enemies card into graveyard then Fraying Sanity = double that, which means on your opponents turn, they can't draw, they loose.

Spells

Creatures

Baral, Chief of Compliance: Great card all round. Only playing 2 as its a Legendary. Awesome synergy with the counter spells which are even cheaper thanks to this card.

Minister of Inquiries: Nice defence for a 1 drop. Use this card to chump block and tap it before it dies to get some extra mill in! Don't tap it on your turn wait for the opponent to do something before its tapped.

Fleet Swallower: Ultimate win condition. If this is played and protected then its insta-win on the next turn when combined with Fraying Sanity

Hostage Taker:Trial card, testing out how much impact it can have in this deck, it seems very strong and I just pulled one :-)

Sailor of Means: Excellent blocking defence for chumping and can generate mana tokens! Combines very well with Siren's Ruse for draw and mana!

Non-Creature Spells

Compelling Argument: Classic Mill card. I will cycle if I do not have a Fraying Sanity in play.

Overflowing Insight: Fun card for late game, use as a discard card if drawn early. Sideboard for River's rebuke if getting overwhelmed a lot by creatures

Hieroglyphic Illumination: Draw card. Prefer this to Opt, late game its great, early game its Opt without the Scry.

Censor: Awesome early game counter with Cycle.

Siren's Ruse: Experimenting a bit with this card. If I play it with one of the Pirates its also a draw card. You can use it when blocking to save your creature from dying and keeping the damage from hitting you (unless it has trample!), this also trigger ETB so works great with all of the Pirates in this deck. Will swap this for Hieroglyphic Enchantment if it does not workout

Winds of Rebuke: Stalling card with bonus mill!

Fraying Sanity: Mill wouldn't work without this card!

Search for azcanta : More choice at draw phase and more ramp for later in the game, playing 1 as it is legendary and can't risk playing 2 since lands are rarely removed

Aether Hub: Can use if needed to gain energy for Minister of Inquiries or to gain a Black land to cast Hostage Taker.

Ipnu Rivulet: Fantastic Mill Card. Save it for later if needed with 2 Fraying Sanity = 4, 4, 8 mill for 16

Sideboard

River's Rebuke: Unconditional removal. Can stop a Carnage Tyrant for a turn! Great if playing a deck that is overwhelming

Torrential Gearhulk: Switch for a Fish if they are playing Lost Legacy and gunning for it. Need to test though.

Spell Swindle: If opponent is playing a slower deck with some big cost spells like dinosaurs, I will probably add this in. Imagine countering a Carnage Tyrant before it becomes a hex-proof monster!

Essence Scatter: Counter Creatures... will put this in against Trample decks in place of Siren's Ruse

Sentinel Totem: Use against reanimate decks

Spell Pierce: Counter Spell, use against control decks
