How can we find out if destroying all lands is good if Armageddon is illegal in modern?? Sure we good just play legacy but a much more fun (and modern legal) way is to use Natural Affinity or Jolrael, Empress of Beasts in conjunction with any board wipe. This combo acts as a complete reset of the board, destroying all lands and all creatures. Although the combo can function using any board wipe there are a few that play even better.
Dead of Winter is great because of its cheap cost. As the combo is so mana intensive the cheaper the board wipe the better. It's not only that that makes Dead of Winter so great in our deck though. Because we run mostly snow lands often times Dead of Winter won't hit our lands at all, making a one sided Armageddon.
For our next board wipe we have Damn. Although this card is more expensive mana-wise then Dead of Winter, it can also be cast in the early game as spot removal. This makes it one of the most versatile board wipes we have access to and is the reason we splash white.
The last board wipe we run is not a board wipe at all but function just as well, if not better, than the others we use. This card is Legion's End. Like Dead of Winter this card is one-sided. In addition to destroying your opponents' lands in also removes any lands they have left over in their hand, making it almost impossible for them to recover. The only downside is it only hits creatures/lands of the same name.
Because the combo is so mana intensive, we run ramp to help speed up the process. Everyone knows the classic combo of Arbor Elf + Utopia Spraw. With this combo online we can wipe the board as early as turn three. We also run Talisman of Resilience as a backup.
In terms of wincons we have Liliana, the Last Hope, Kalitas, Traitor of Ghet and Kitchen Finks, all of which work well with our combo.
