This started out as an attempt to make a super budget version of Skred, (albeit without actually running the card Skred) because I am poor. And when I say Budget, I mean budget. My initial list cost less than $25, but that required cutting Koth and Lightning Bolt, which sucked. I've been gradually increasing this deck's budget over time, but I'm still trying to keep it as cheap as possible. That means no Blood Moon.

Don't know what Skred is? Come here and educate yourself son.

  • Koth of the Hammer: When it comes to mono-red decks, Koth is pretty much the best planeswalker you can ask for. He puts your opponent on a fast clock, beating them down every turn with 4/4 lands. He can untap a mountain to keep mana open for a Lightning Bolt to protect himself during my opponent’s turn, which is actually pretty relevant. On top of that, Koth ults very quickly, and it is very very hard to lose once he does so. My main win-con right here.

  • Smoldering Egg  : Thing In The Egg. Good blocker that becomes a scary dragon.

  • Magmatic Channeler: Essentially a 2 mana 4/4 that can filter my draws in a pinch.

  • Lightning Bolt: It’s Lightning Bolt.

  • Flame Slash: Premium creature removal. Honestly not an amazing card, but very efficient at what it does.

  • Volt Charge: 3 mana bolt that upticks all my walkers, and gets the egg closer to hatching.

  • Chandra, Acolyte of Flame: Baby Chandra is awesome. She can present a decent clock with her tokens, she can uptick Koth so he ults a turn faster, and she can recast burn spells from the yard. Pretty great for 3 mana.

  • Mind Stone: Red doesn't have much in the way of meaningful card draw. Mind Stone pulls double duty as a mana rock that cantrips when I don't need the mana.

    • Mountain: Best card in the deck by far. Deck is literally unplayable without it

The deck follows a pretty simple game plan: use cheap removal to clear the board, then stick a threat and ride it to victory.

I’m pretty happy with how the list has been performing so far, but I’m always looking for ways to improve it while staying under budget.

I’m planning on eventually getting some Blood Moons in here when I have some more money to toss at this game, but until then the list is staying budget.

    Chandra is best girl.

Got some games in the other day. Deck did well, but some ratios felt off.

    Out:

Cut shrine down to 1, dropped the steel hellkites and the blasphemous act.

    In:

Bumped Chandra Pyromaster up to 3, she was doing some real work all night. Brought in a full playset of Charging Monstrosaur as a fast finisher.
