New Commander —May 29, 2018

I’ve changed my commander back to a 5-color commander. Jodah can help me accelerate out more expensive planeswalkers or crazy spells like omniscience. There has been an overhaul of at least 15% of the whole deck.

I am putting together a 5 color superfriends deck with Sliver Queen at the helm. I added in a couple more creatures than you have but really like your enchantment, artifact, and other selections. My mana base isn't QUITE as primo but getting there.

What does a typical game look like for you? I imagine a lot of early ramping from what your description says. I only see Skyshroud Claim though so what else is a "ramp" for you?

Forceofnature1 My opinion on the best general for a 5 color superfriends deck is that you want to be unassuming. My hope for you is that your commander selection doesn't bring bring aggression your way unduly.

In terms of ramp, I just took out Farseek for Burgeoning. I also play Sol Ring, Mana Vault, Mana Crypt, Darksteel Ingot, Chromatic Lantern, Exploration, Gilded Lotus and Crucible of Worlds. All but the Crucible ramp me. I will probably try to fit in the new Prismatic Geoscope that taps for Domain, which is any combination of mana equal to unique basic land types. That'll always be 5 for me.

Games typically start out where by turnes 4 or 5 people will start to have threatening board positions. I want to make sure that I'm ready to go to work in a very specific way. Wipe the board in anticipation of playing a planeswalker that can protect itself with a token blocker. After that you can start playing PWs with card advantage to dig for another board wipe and do that a couple of times until you have 3 or more PWs in play. The advantage you get at that point starts to get silly.

The game ends when I Conflux and find Doubling Season, Tamiyo, Field Researcher, Tezzeret the Seeker , Ral Zarek & something fun like Sorin, Grim Nemesis. With Doubling Season in play, you drop Tamiyo to cast things for free, then Ral Zerek to get extra turns, then Tezz to get The Chain Veil and just win.

Is 40 land really nessecary? I feel like 37 would be enough plus the addition of some more mana rocks or something. I just know I hate drawing land all the time in a deck like this.

maddoxmtg I just recently removed my wraths that also destroy all artifacts and enchantments. Before that, I wouldn't really be able to plan on keeping my mama rocks around.

One of those 40 lands is the Maze of Ith, so it's really like 39. I also just added Burgeoning, so I'm trying it out with the land count high still.

I'm actively evaluating the mana right now, but I will say that the most important thing to do in this deck is hit 6 mana. Missing land drops is painful.

This deck is similar to my super friends deck, but I recently changed my commander to Reaper King. And I'm using scarecrows as my mana rocks and spot destruction. That way I can run a few creatures and not to have to run so many wipes, and it helps to protect my walkers as well.

Tjbwoody yeah, just having a Atraxa as a flying, vigilant, deathtouching blocker really helps me to protect my PWs better. I've only been testing it for a couple of games now, but already I can tell the games will play out much differently. I'm expecting to drop my board wipe count by a couple at least.

How do you feel about the "Oath of" Cycle? Oath of Ajani, Oath of Nissa, Oath of Jace, Oath of Chandra, Oath of Gideon seem like they cold be pretty good in the deck. Listed in order of preference

Force_of_Willb Those oaths don't have nearly the kind of impact one would want in a deck like this when you evaluate those against any potential card you might want to take out.

I can say that the Oath of Ajani is a little tempting because it's a good way to start the counters on Atraxa, so I may try that one out. But my initial evaluation on that was that it was a mana rock that only benefited my planeswalkers.
