Maybeboard

Hi all! Oathbreaker is the newest format in Magic: the Gathering and it is starting to gain some momentum. This 20-life, 60-card singleton, multiplayer format is very similar to EDH except it requires Planeswalkers as Commanders. As a twist, the format allows players to have a Signature Spell - an instant or sorcery card which is cast from the Command Zone and can be recast for an additional for each time it has been previously cast from the Command Zone. The format promises faster games compared to EDH/Commander while keeping a lot of the flavor which made EDH/Commander a hit. The official rules and banlist of the format can be accessed here: weirdcards.org.

For my first deck, I have decided to try the said format and have chosen Huatli, Sun's Heart as my Oathbreaker and Tower Defense as her Signature Spell. At first glance, this seems to be another one of those Big Butt decks but I can assure you it is not. I have purposely strayed a bit from that path and infused a lot of stompy and infect pieces which I think works well considering Oathbreaker is a 20-life format.

Deck Tech

Huatli, the Sun's Heart is the perfect Commander/Oathbreaker for a big butts deck. Like Arcades, the Strategist and Doran, the Siege Tower , Huatli makes swinging with big butts sexy AF. And with Tower Defense as our Signature Spell, they tend to start swinging with the intention to kill. So why in the world did we choose not to go with big butts while keeping Huatli at the helm? There are actually several reasons.

First, I did not want the deck to be Oathbreaker-centric. Going all in on the big butts concept meant being left on the defensive without our Oathbreaker in play. I wanted the deck to be effective even without my Oathbreaker but even more effective the moment it hits play. I felt that I can accomplish this by incorporating a lot of Infect and Stompy pieces in the deck.

Second, with the idea now shifting into more of a fast, aggro deck, Huatli maintains her relevance as she makes Tower Defense an insanely powerful pump spell. For , Tower Defense essentially gives all our creatures +5/+5.

Lastly, the deck still makes use of creatures like Arboreal Grazer , Grizzled Leotau and Llanowar Augur which benefits greatly from having Huatli in play. Imagine the damage a single Tireless Tribe can do with a full hand and our Oathbreaker in the game. Sweet, right?

As this is still my initial draft, I am very interested to hear everyone's thoughts on the deck. I've done some playtesting here on the site and its seems to have retained a good amount of the speed that mono green infect decks are known for. If you like the concept, then please be kind enough to give the deck an upvote. Thanks!
