HPK's Speed Enhancement Deck

Commander / EDH Aggro Budget Burn Mono-Red

HybridPK

This deck has been in the making for a while now. Commander/EDH is a fun format, but I have made a few observations regarding every game I've played over the years. Every player is typically only present to play Solitaire. No one likes it when someone interacts with their board. No one wants to die. People play creatures for their utility more than anything else. Games can also drag on due to misplays or a lack of aggression. In general, I'm an aggro player in a combo group. My goal is to make people play more aggressively.

I've been wanting to make this type of deck for a while. It started off as Saskia the Unyielding, moved to Queen Marchesa, moved to Mogis, God of Slaughter, and finally to this deck. It is likely still possible to build this deck with the additional color options, but I don't like the idea of spending a bunch of money. This is supposed to be a "group hug" style deck that focuses on the following concepts:

  • Give all creatures haste. Every creature should be doing things on the turn they enter.
  • All creatures must attack if able. Every player should be using their combat phase.
  • All creatures must block if able, or no creatures can block. There is no in-between.
  • Everyone needs to take damage. "Target" player? No. EACH player. Players need less life so they can play faster.
  • Damage should be doubled. These games should be wrapped up quickly.

As with all "group hug" decks, it is less about winning and more-so about being the "Kingmaker." Honestly, I don't expect this deck to win. If anything, ending the game in a draw would be good. This deck isn't meant to prevent people from doing things, or remove their toys from the battlefield. People are mostly allowed to do what they want, but they'll take damage and have to use their creatures to attack.

By design, the commander is interchangeable between Heartless Hidetsugu, Kazuul, Tyrant of the Cliffs, Zo-Zu the Punisher, Neheb, the Eternal, and Fumiko the Lowblood. The deck would likely be improved if I had focused on just having one legendary creature to build around, but that also means I would have to focus more on winning. Again, the goal is to get EVERYONE at a lower life total to force them to play faster.
