Win Conditions

The primary win condition of this deck is to damage opponents via massive discard/draw effects. Each card listed below is a direct source of damage or life loss utilizing this method.

• Nekusar, the Mindrazer/Spiteful Visions

  Both of these cards speed up the game clock by force-feeding players extra cards while simultaneously inflicting pain. Flash enablers allow me to cast Nekusar, the Mindrazer during an opponent's end step to maximize card advantage.

• Bloodchief Ascension

  This card often becomes active in a matter of turns during multiplayer games. Overall its versatility can lead to major life total swings in my favor, especially when using wheels that have mass discard effects.

• Liliana's Caress

  This card is a bit more limited in power than Bloodchief Ascension, but the amount of discarding this deck causes make it a viable option.

• Molten Psyche

  Credit has to be given where credit is due. This card doubles as a wheel spell and is more than capable of ending games quickly when cast at the right moment.

• Niv-Mizzet, the Firemind

  While he doesn't pack the multiplayer punch of the other cards in this category, Niv-Mizzet, the Firemind makes for a useful 4/4 flying body and utility card draw. Also pairs with Mind Over Matter for an infinite draw/damage combo.

• Phyrexian Tyranny

  This card is especially useful in a control matchup as it forces opponents to choose between life loss or spending mana to nullify the pain.

Lands

My land choices for this deck are intended to efficiently maintain a tricolor mana base and provide value during multiple game situations. Due to budget constraints I am unable to follow the 3-3-9 split for shock lands, ABUR duals, and fetch lands.

• Academy Ruins

  This card functions as a useful way to recur Memory Jar in addition to backing up my ramp package as Grixis relies heavily on artifact ramp. It is also helpful for recovering combo pieces such as Temple Bell and Otherworldly Atlas .

• Ancient Tomb

  An effective ramp card in the early game which can sometimes be abused later on with Mind Over Matter for big plays.
