I recently looked at Thing in the Ice   and thought about a place where I can abuse it. After some playtesting with a list of ArchFline which focuses on bouncing effects I decided to go more aggro with this card. Aggro is probably the only way Titi can be used in Modern, otherwise the opponent has too much time to remove it.

So I took my Kiln Fiend deck and mixed them...turns out they mix quite well. With each of my creatures being able to achieve a turn 3 win.

The Gameplan Show

Turn :

a) Monastery Swiftspear maybe a Gitaxian Probe and swing

b) Serum Visions

Turn :

a) Pump Monastery Swiftspear with Distortion Strike, Assault Strobe and two Mutagenic Growth and swing for lethal (Unlikely, but godlike when it happens!)

b) Hunted Horror and maybe Gitaxian Probe. An Alternative is to cast Torpor Orb in order to stifle the ETB of the horror, which can then played on turn three.

c) Thing in the Ice  

Turn :

a) Play Thing in the Ice   and a Distortion Strike on your Monastery Swiftspear maybe a phyrexian spell as well

b) Cast Distortion Strike, Assault Strobe and a Mutagenic Growth. Swing for lethal. This way the tokens our horror gave the opponent don't matter.

c) Pretty much the same as b) but you require some more spells to make Thing in the Ice   attack. The result can be the same, because of the 11 cards for card draw. An fun alternative is to cast Hunted Horror and some spells to reduce the ice counters. You can also cast Distortion Strike even if you can't use it right now. The next turn rebound reduces the ice counter further and one creature is unblockable.

Turn : (from 3c)

Now play some more spells so Thing in the Ice   flips and wipes away the tokens our Hunted Horror gave to the opponent. Swing for 14 or 21 with an Assault Strobe

The Lightning Bolts are an alternative way to get rid of the centaur tokens.

Sideboard Show

Since I'm fairly new to modern I really don't know what a sideboard needs.

A plan I find appealing is to play the first round full aggro. Then postboard irritate the opponent with sideboarding a lot to a more controlling state if needed.

Engineered Explosives: Great against smaller aggro or token decks.

Pithing Needle: Mainly for plainswalkers and artifacts.

Lightning Bolt: cheap and efficient removal.

Spell Pierce: A little bit of counter never hurts.

Surgical Extraction: Interrupt shenanigans with Snapcaster Mage or destroy melira combo.

Vandalblast: Obligatory artifact hate

17.6.2016 - First FNM:

0 - 2 against a BW token deck. Made the mistake to give him the centaur tokens without the possibility to remove them quickly.

2 - 1 against a Grixis Emrakul/Griselbrand-Deck. Really nasty deck, but luckily I was faster the last two games.

0 -2 against merfolk. Annoying little bastards, but Torpor Orb, which was in the sideboard, helped. We continued to test my deck preboard after he won and I achieved a turn 3 kill with my Hunted Horror.

1 - 2 against mono green stompy. My opponent was a good friend of mine so that game was a blast. Won the first game and lost the second very close. I was too slow on the third, so that was his game too. But third game was also the most fun, since I played three spellskites and was able to annoy the hell out of him :D
