Hermit Brood | Sidisi Combo

Commander / EDH

tenrose

Knacksaw Clique is a card which is severely underrated. When you have it in the graveyard, along with a blue mana producer such as Bloom Tender, you can exile-mill your opponent's libraries with Necrotic Ooze at instant speed with zero interaction outside of Split Second!

This deck runs two main combos with backup. Knacksaw Nooze (discussed above), and Laboratory Maniac after a mass mill. Cards like Memory's Journey provide extra resiliency to graveyard removal effects, and Sylvan Safekeeper provides protection for Nooze on-board.

To get the them up and running, you will need to mass-mill your own library. We run two ways of doing this easily. Firstly and more obviously we run a basic-less list with Hermit Druid. His ability allows us to mill our entire library for a total of 1GG. Secondly we have Food Chain and Eternal Scourge for infinite creature-mana, to infinitely cast Sidisi, Brood Tyrant. This method nets us the Zombie creature tokens, which we can use as fuel for Dread Return.

Dread Return is the bread and butter for this deck. It allows us to sacrifice three creatures to return either Necrotic Ooze or Laboratory Maniac to the battlefield. We can make reuse of this effect in a pinch by having card: Rift Sweeper come into play. This is also a fantastic card for getting around pesky Extract effects.

Once you have Necrotic Ooze on the board with your library in your graveyard, you can pay G to give him haste with Thornling's ability. You can go to town exiling your opponent's libraries at this point. If they try to respond, remind them that you can respond to their removal or board wipes with mass library exile. Instant speed wins are spicy.

If you're in a pinch and somebody has exiled your Necrotic Ooze, you should be using Dread Return to get Laboratory Maniac. If somebody exiles your graveyard before you can get the combo online (for example, in response to Dread Return), then I'm afraid there's not a lot else you can do.

My meta is currently filled with Tormod's Crypt effects, so I'm looking at finding ways to prevent them from happening. The deck runs a nice free-counter package, like Pact of Negation, Daze, and Force of Will. Riftsweeper was added to the deck after I was hit with the new Grenzo, Havoc Raiser after putting Food Chain on top of my library with Vampiric Tutor.

That's all for now, more to come!
