Sideboard

A while ago I made my debut into modern by building my U/W Control Let's Begin With Control..., and now I've decided to get into Standard, too.

This deck started off as an idea forming around a trio of Chandra, Torch if Defiances and a copy of Hazoret the Fervent I found as my best cards for Standard play. From there I searched decklists and slowly formed a picture of what aggro red looks like in Standard right now.

As always, any suggestion would be greatly appreciated.

And also, while looking through decks I found I needed something to fill the 3 mana slot soo which is better- Lathnu Hellion or Ahn-Crop Crasher?

Seeing as this is red aggro, I feel that the mainboard doesn't need an explanation for why cards are included- but I will still explain the sideboard... Just a note though, my sideboard is based on the sideboards of similar decks and I still do not understand certain cards that are consistent across many decklists.

Aethersphere Harvester- Is one of the cards I don't quite get. I'm assuming that it's to combat other fast aggro decks with life gain?

Chandra, Torch of Defiance- Offers a win condition immune to most creature-removal spells. The only downside is that Chandra's Defeat takes it down easy.

Glorybringer- Is pretty big in Standard right now (I think) and would be in the maindeck of any slower deck. For now, it wallows in the sideboard, waiting to crush control's dreams and win plenty of game 2s.

Kari Zev's Expertise- I think this card is for matchups with creature based decks? It also gives a pretty fun 2-for-1 deal when it lets me cast a spell for free- which can add up on Soul-Scar Mage's prowess.

Lathnu Hellion- While I'm currently running it as a sideboard for decks that don't run many creatures (like Second-Sun Control) I might switch it to the mainboard according to feedback and seeing as it's pretty cheap at the moment.

pia nalar - For matchup with more creature-heavy decks, Pia gives 2 chump blockers and a way to pump artifacts.

Release the Gremlins- For matchups with artifact-heavy decks.

Scavenger Grounds- To take out any graveyard tricks my opponent has, and in case I need an extra land to increase consistency of draw.

Updates Add

I ended up swapping Hazoret's Undying Fury got a copy of Glorybringer in hopes of speeding up the deck. It turns out I don’t really end up drawing the single copy of Hazoret's Undying Fury when it comes to late games, but always in an opening hand (basically a dead card at that point.

I don’t own most of the cards on the side board (yet!) so as of now I’m playing with a 9-card sideboard and I think I’ll be switching some cards out already. Await future updates to see what happens next!
