Hasty Rakdos Beatdown

Standard* Aggro BR (Rakdos) Dragons

jchudz

Sideboard

Maybeboard

Rakdos aggro deck combining aspects of Jason Espesito's and Tomoharu Saito's lists.

The plan of the deck is to apply pressure early with cheap creatures, about 50% of which have, or can give themselves haste when top-decked.

If the smaller creatures get stone-walled, you finish them off with dragons, which let you run the best burn removal spell in standard right now, Draconic Roar .

Bloodsoaked Champion and Flamewake Phoenix help alleviate the weakness to sweepers that normally plague aggro decks like this. The high amount of haste in the deck also helps make it easier to trigger raid for bloodsoaked champion.

So far in testing Scab-Clan Berserker has been great in the deck. Still probably not going to have it more than a 2 of, but it has caught a lot of people off guard in game 1.

Sideboard:

Duress to grab sweepers before they can be cast. Also comes in against atarka red to hit become immense or command.

Hangarback Walker comes in against removal heavy decks and for matchups where there is a high chance of the games getting grindy. Seems a little slow for the maindeck.

Outpost Siege/Ob Nixilis Reignited comes in for the control matchup to get some card advantage to push through removal/couterspells.

Murderous Cut for unconditional removal in the midrange matchup.

Self-Inflicted Wound as a concession to Siege Rhino that potentially also deals with annoying cards like Mantis Rider and Dragonlord Ojutai

Virulent Plague comes in against retreat control, since the colors can't deal with enchantments and also has a hard time with answering them with 1 for 1 removal. Also good against aristocrat decks that rely on tokens to get value out of their creatures through tokens on death.

3-0-2 into top 8. Not bad for the deck's second time played on paper.

Round 1: Abzan aristocrats 2-1

Game 1 got rallied after he stalled with tokens from Abzan Ascendancy.

Games 2 and 3, was able to out value them with bloodsoaked champion and the Phoenix.

Round 2: atarka red 2-1

Game 1 : run over by become immense + temur battlerage.

Games 2+3:brought in extra removal and was able to stabilize and get the win.

Round 3: atarka red 2-1

Pretty much the same as round 2.

Round 4: id to esper dragons

Played out the games anyway, would have ended up winning. Got him in game 1 with a fast aggro hand. Game 2 ground out until I eventually killed him with an ob nixilis ultimate after he gained about 16-20 life off of foul tounge invocation with active jace.

Round 5: Id into top 8. No games played.

Top 8

Quarterfinals : atarka red 2-1

Semifinals: faced atarka red player from round 2. Games were close put was able to pull ahead.

Finals : Esper dragons 2-1

Game 1: wasn't able to keep a board presence ,lost.

Game 2: was able to apply pressure early and keep him on the defensive with a large hangarback and some phoenixes.

Game 3: they mulled to 5 and didn't get enough answers to slow me down.
