Gruul/Energy Historic Deck

Historic RG (Gruul)

NestedEgg05

So this deck is comparable to the Gruul Aggro deck circulating through Historic right now, with a twist: ! Some Gruul builds utilize Voltaic Brawler, which can, for one , pump his attack and give him trample. I thought I'd run with this idea of using and incorporate some more cards that showcase abilities.

First and foremost, Attune with Aether is a four-of, for obv reasons. Adding Servant of the Conduit to this mix gives even more ramp, in place of a Llanowar Elves, which I did not include in this build. Voltaic Brawler gives two more , which can be used for either his combat or, better yet, saved for, what I believe to be the highlight of the deck, Harnessed Lightning. This lovely card gives you three , and you can spend any amount of for Harnessed Lightning to do that much damage to a targeted creature. By turn three, you may have saved up to 7 after casting Harnessed Lightning! So Harnessed Lightning hitting something for 7 damage, turn 3, for isn't unheard of.

Burning-Tree Emissary is also included in this deck, because who doesn't love free spells? Another card that I think is absolutely overpowered is Domri's Ambush. Suuuuuch a good removal spell. And it's not even the two creatures fighting; it simply deals damage equal to your creature's power (which is pumped +1/+1) for two mana! My favorite card, Questing Beast is just bonkers...4/4 deathtouch, vigilance, haste AND gets planeswalkers when it deals damage? AND can't be blocked by small creatures? Oh, did I mention it has vigilance :P So it can block right after it attacks for 4 damage.

Finally, I added Bonecrusher Giant for early threats and a big body later on, and Embercleave for when you're swinging with a couple/few creatures and have three or four open lands.

I thought about including Aetherworks Marvel in this deck, but then I'd have to include things like Nissa, Who Shakes the World and Ulamog, the Ceaseless Hunger and Ugin, the Spirit Dragon, which are great cards, but just not fitting for this deck.

1 Rampaging Ferocidon for those pesky turn-one Soul Warden decks ;)

2 Scavenging Oozes for graveyard removal and another big body.

2 Gruul Spellbreakers to protect you against counterspells and other shenanigans people throw at you on your turn.

+1 if you liked this deck, and let me what you think! So far, I've made it to Diamond Tier 1 with it. Knockin on Mythic's door :P
