We Did It Everybody —Aug. 11, 2017

My deck has achieved position #1 everyone. This is a huge milestone for me and I could not have done it without each and every one of my commenters and upvoters. I'm fairly certain that most of you upvoted for the random poetry, but even so, this is the best deck I have ever made. If however you think that this means that I am done making magic decks on this site, then you sir or madam, are dead wrong. You see, I only put together a few of the decks I make on this site, and the rest I really make for you the viewers. I love MTG and I want to be able to help kickstart a new player to the game with deck ideas like these. At least, that is the dream.

I want to give special thanks to goblinguiderevealpls for showing his competitive Nekusar deck and for the advice, so please folks go check out his deck, it was a huge help in putting together this one.

So I'd like to end off this little update with a quick little teaser as to my next upcoming deck.

Twas a night for a deck builder they called TurtleZoom

He built a grixis deck that quickly went Boom

But soon he was ready to build his next work

"I think I'll build Esper" he said with a smirk

Seems to have all the trimmings a Nekusar deck needs! He's such an asshole; I both love and hate him. Your deck deserves an upvote for the Christmas-y poem alone. I loved it.

Both as a fellow Grixis player, and as a fellow Drawing Commander, I love this deck. I had some suggestions in my mind, but all of the cards you either ran, or would not go with the flavor of your deck. Therefore, I am left with no choice but to congratulate you on your incredible achievement.

Your lack of counterspells is highly disturbing.

Apart from that, throw a Jace's Sanctum in here for a discount and some good scry action to filter out a bit of the land you'll be drawing. You might want to look into some self-discard pieces like Drake Haven and Ruthless Sniper.

The deck seems really solid! If budget isn't a problem, I would add Time Spiral as a powerful wheel effect, and use Chromatic Lantern for fixing over Obelisk of Grixis.

If you want to see what a tuned competitive multiplayer nekusar list looks like, maybe this could give you some ideas! Ive spent a long time tuning and investing in the deck since he was printed, and im pretty happy with where he has gone in his 5 years in my command zone :)

But a word of advice from my nearly 6 years playing him. He draws a LOT of hate. So stacking Howling Mine effects is almost always a bad idea. Doing this gives your opponents answers to nekusar and other pain spells, thus giving them loads of free card draw once he is removed, nekusar is best played as a grixis storm commander where you Wheel of Fortune chain them to death in one turn after ramping/controlling, residual upkeep draw damage is too slow and enabling, chaining wheels is usually the best game plan after its safe to do so
