Golos in Pioneer

A port of the standard Golos, Tireless Pilgrim deck for Pioneer. In the standard variant, Field of the Dead does the bulk of the heavy lifting, and while that is also true here the alternate win condition of playing as a control deck and assembling a win with Maze's End is very doable.

This deck could benefit from being tailored based on the meta-game greatly, but this list was put together on the second day after the announcement came out so not a lot is known at the moment. The sideboard reflects this lack of knowledge, although from what I've seen so far devotion deck lists are being posted all over the place, so with that in mind I've focused on resiliency against aggressive strategies more so than against control as well as redundancy effects. The amount of stax/ prison effects seems to be lower in this format, so the sideboard doesn't have tools for that at the moment but this may become a consideration based on future printings. Additionally in the sideboard the concentration of artifacts noted with "Tutor target for Karn" should be fetched using Karn, the Great Creator and not necessarily bought in to the main deck

Sideboard Choices:

  • Alpine Moon : Name the opposing Nykthos, Shrine to Nyx from devotion decks
  • Ghirapur Orrery : Tutor for Karn, for match-ups where Thoughtseize and discard effects mean your hand needs to be refilled each turn to keep casting spells
  • Crucible of Worlds : Tutor target for Karn, can also be bought in to the main deck in some number of copies to allow for you to loop lands where land destruction or field of ruin might be common
  • Golos, Tireless Pilgrim : Spare copy, Tutor target for Karn
  • Sorcerous Spyglass : Target opposing planeswalkers, Tutor target for Karn
  • Grafdigger's Cage : Hate for opposing graveyard or library based decks, Tutor target for Karn
  • Ratchet Bomb : if the opponent has generated an army of zombies, go and grab a ratchet bomb with Karn and use it for zero
  • The Immortal Sun : there has been a lot of planeswalker support in the past few sets, this may or may not be a useful tool, or may just be worse than the Spyglass in many instances.
  • Tormod's Crypt : Graveyard hate, aimed more at spell casting decks
  • Veil of Summer : this is the Counterspell we're going with for the remaining spots. Our strategy needs something that can be effective against counter based decks and deal with interaction as it wants to assume the role of a midrange deck. This is also one of the few options that will draw us a card at the same time

As always feed back and suggestions are much appreciated. If you give this deck a try on Magic Online let me know!
