I'll teach you the Astral Slide

Welcome to Cycling Golos! This deck came about through a few circumstances. I had been interested in building a cycling deck for some time, but wasn't interested in playing Zur. When Astral Drift came out, I knew I needed to build cycling soon. And then Golos wandered into my heart.

Building the deck has been a great exercise in card choice. I have tried to be as flexible as possible with cycling cards in order to have a variety of answers while balancing the cards that produce extreme value from flickering, drawing, discarding, and return things from the graveyard. If you like slow build-ups, controlling the field, and then going off with intense engines, this might be the deck for you!

Cycling Golos is a grindy, control-oriented deck looking to control the battlefield with and gain value from Astral Slide/Drift. Our basic plan is to ramp, gain value, get out Astral Slide/Drift, gain more and more value, and finally whittle our opponents by draining their life or swarming them with tokens.

  • Astral Drift/Astral Slide - The main engine of the deck. Keep in mind that Astral Slide triggers when anyone cycles.
  • Blood Sun - Bounce lands not only help get cycling lands back in our hand, but also accelerate our mana through Golos' etb ability. Blood Sun not only keeps other mana bases in check, but gives us great acceleration, draws a card, and can be searched for with Zur.
  • Bone Miser - With the amount we cycle, Bone Miser makes a ton of mana and draws extra cards. Can even make surprise blockers if needed.
  • Fluctuator - Helps us go off with cycling.
  • Hall of Heliod's Generosity - Not only recurs enchantments, but also sets up Golos activation.
  • New Perspectives - With the proper setup, we can often cycly through most of our deck in one turn.
  • Soulherder - Functions as a soft astral slide to get value from our etb creatures. Also gets bigger the more we use Astral Slide/Drift.
  • Unfulfilled Desires - Backup to get value off of things like Tooth, Bone Miser, Locust God, etc.

  • The Gitrog Monster - We cycle a lot of land...
  • Life from the Loam - Reload our hand with lands for cycling and get cards in the graveyard for Sun Titan or Splendid Reclamation.
  • The Mending of Dominaria - With so much cycling, it's easy to get 5+ lands off of chapter three. Plus, we dig through our deck quickly and this helps us not deck ourselves.
  • Nexus of Fate - We often hit engine pieces with Golos but have to pass with not enough mana to really capitalize. Nexus of Fate gives us a chance to immediately make good on our engines.
  • Sun Titan - Not only gets cycling lands back but cmc 3 is very important for us since Astral Drift/Slide draws attention quickly.
  • Tilling Treefolk - Flicker to refuel the hand for cycling.
  • Toothy, Imaginary Friend - Being able to flicker Toothy keeps our hand nice and full.
  • Zur the Enchanter - Fetches many of our important enchantments.

  • Creeping Renaissance - Provides large and flexible recursion and has flashback.
  • card:Elixer of Immortality - It can be very easy to draw through most of our deck and this helps reset things.
  • Glint-Horn Buccaneer - I think the deck needs a couple more win conditions and this thing can put out a ton of damage. It also enables discarding and drawing.
  • Overabundance - This deck is always starved for mana and could really use the boost. Not nly can you grab this with Zur or Sun Titan, but it even wears your opponents down.
