Lorehold Legacies C21 Precon Reveal —April 8, 2021

Along with the recent reveal of the Lorehold Legacies C21 precon came a total of 20 brand new cards, which for now, will be listed in the Maybeboard under "Lorehold Legacies". While some of these cards aren't really worth mentioning, there are a few that are definitely worth considering for the deck...

1.) Alibou, Ancient Witness - Giving all of our artifact creatures haste would be extremely beneficial. Especially when making multiple copies of ones with evasion. Alibou's second ability can also double as removal since it simply triggers on attack as opposed to triggering on damage. This would help to remove blockers before damage goes through. Last but not least, being able to scry X, where X = the number of tapped artifacts we control, would help tremendously in getting the cards we need for our deck to function properly.

2.) Angel of the Ruins - Even though this card is a 7 drop I personally feel like it's well worth it. Being able to exile up two target artifacts and/or enchantments is pretty solid removal. Being able to reconstruct this for 2/4/6 or even 8 copies would be insane, and effectively wipe the board of any problematic artifacts/ enchantments. It also pairs really nicely with Eldrazi Displacer allowing us to abuse the ETB trigger.

3.) Archaeomancer's Map - Land ramp in white as long as we're behind in lands. This will also allow us to draw two cards (lands) out of our deck, giving us a little deck thinning in the process. It also synergizes really well with Osgir, the Reconstructor allowing us to make 2/4/6 or even 8 copies of it, effectively pulling all of the plains out of our deck. Having multiples of this in play will also allow us to put that many plains from our hand into play since they will all trigger individually.

4.) Bronze Guardian - Unfortunately another high CMC card, but the level of protection this card brings when it hits the board is nothing to shake a stick at. Giving all of our artifacts "Ward 2" effectively turns Path to Exile into a 3CMC spell, Beast Within into a 5CMC spell, Wrath of God into a 5CMC spell, so on and so forth... This will also synergize really well with Osgir, the Reconstructor considering we can, again, make 2/4/6/ or even 8 copies of it. This would more or less make all of our artifacts untargetable. The caveat here is that this will more than likely only protect our artifact creatures, but in my opinion still worth considering for the deck.

5.) Rip Apart - This card is actually form Strixhaven proper, and may not be an instant speed removal spell, but the flexibility it offers is worth considering.

Cursed Mirror and Monologue Tax are getting a lot of hype in the community, but for me personally I'm not convinced. With Cursed Mirror I would probably just prefer a 2CMC mana rock, and with Monologue Tax it honestly just feels like a worse version of Smothering Tithe.

Everything listed here will require some play testing so stay tuned for future changes to the deck. Cheers.

Basalt Monolith + Rings of Brighthearth = Infinite mana ? I don't get it. You tap Basalt Monolith, and you gain 3 colorless mana. Then you have to use 3 mana to untap it. Rings of Brighthearth cannot help you with that because it says explicitly that you can copy any ability that is not a MANA ability.

Thanks for stopping by TheEntertainer, really appreciate the comment and question.

So, two important things to note about this combo are: 1) You will need Basalt Monolith + Rings of Brighthearth in play, as well as access to two generic mana to get this combo going. 2) You are not actually copying the mana producing ability on Basalt Monolith , you are copying the untap ability. This is a fairly complex stack interaction, so rather than butcher the explanation myself, I'll just redirect you to the following link: MTG Combo: Basalt Monolith + Rings of Brighthearth

Hope this helps. Cheers.
